Great run by Ky. First time under 27. 5k record next one would think. He appeared to do a lot of the leading so in a faster race there is the potential for another PB. Brett I imagined would be disappointed. McDonald 7:46 last night. Not bad (9 secs off his PB) but not great. Plenty of room for improvement though as he continues injury free. More of less a similar result to Beamish at Worlds. Hoare runs 3:35 at Sound. Similiar again. Hopefully things will round up for them for the outdoor season.
I do wonder if we're almost at a point of "what you see is what you get" with Morgs, Ollie and especially Stewy. Morgan McDonald is now injury free and out of OAC but I wonder if it's too late to reach his track ceiling? I think if all 3 of these (and probably a few more - Jack Bruce has seemingly been injured for a year now too), aren't anywhere near qualifying standards on the track this outdoor season, it's time to move up and have a real crack at the roads/marathon. There's so many younger guys coming through and running similar times over 1500/3000/5000 now.
The new breed is coming through. Jackson Sharpe winning the 3k at Maurie Plant, Seth and others. The depth of talent is starting to appear in the juniors. Imagine having U20 4 junior boys that have run 8:01 and faster for 3k? The future is bright! Good results by our Aussie's over in the states at NCAA's as well at the moment.

Jimmy Whelan's second 5km split was 14:40. 61:47 predicted. Dunno. Feels like a little bit too much ego when you go out with 58-mid guys for the first mile for no reason and then blow up.
Myers has all the assets that's for sure. My query is how he goes in a uneven paced/elbows and spikes, championship style race. But suppose if you're fast enough and good enough (as he is) it takes all of that out of the equation.
A big weekend for Aussie distance running with Myers, Robinson, and Hollingsworth all making headlines. Looking forward to Nationals in a few weeks. I wonder if Ky will come for the 5k and will Myers double like he did in 2025 and run 1500m and 5k.
Yep. I think Kennedy ran brilliantly too, in conditions not ideal for sprinting. Great to see someone doubling in the 100/200m during the same meet.

Wasn't able to follow live but Jimmy's run is now on Strava. 2.5x pace for 15km, then 0.1km slower than 5min/k suddenly, so I'm guessing something unexpected, doesn't look like a blow up as the splits were consistent up until 15.1km.

Anyone know what happened?
How does that not look like a blow-up? (BTW, strava/Suunto splits don't look accurate here at all)
He literally ran with the East Africans who were pushing for sub 59 for the first 2ish miles and then slowly popped from there. Just dumb racing

I am australian and talking about Berlin marathon, which was the current topic for today after the maurie plant meeting
The thread is talking about an Australian runner in the Berlin half marathon, not the entire race. Create a new thread discussing the race in general should you wish - thanks.
