Because he was a no name behind the diamond league champion, 2023 world champion, 2022 world champion, 2019 world champion, and USA champion.

It's why Wightman's injuries have been such a shame. He's probably the smartest racer who isn't the best time trialler or the quickest. So he splits the difference between the other top guys right now.

Wightman was tremendous. Too bad he missed the gold, but a second medal cements him into another tier on the all time lists.

All I can say is that these results puts Jakob's achievements and losses into perspective in this era of 1500m running. It is a ducking hard event.

Hardest event to win as a favorite IMO. More randomness than other events
