Kids love Woodbridge. Great experience for them. Getting out fast 1st mile mimics Woodward Park. It's fun. It's fast. It's well done. So sjs stop it. Stop defending Jesuit and their recruiting and bs racing tactics. It's enough.
I’m stepping away from this thread for now. I’ve noticed that some of what I say tends to get misinterpreted or twisted, and it’s honestly just tiring at this point. I appreciate the people who I’ve sold interactions with and are overall chill- even when we disagree- but I’ve also seen a lot of selective reading, assumptions, and contradictions in how some discussions play out (whether it’s about Woodbridge, “recruitment,” or anything else). It feels like no matter what I say, it gets downvoted (and that’s just the internet, can’t control that)- even when the post or topic itself isn’t controversial. Sure I may be out of line sometimes and all that jazz, and that’s on me- I take responsibility for things on my part. But even when I’m not, I feel like I’m just met with the same responses. So maybe some people just don’t vibe with me, and that’s fine, it is just hs xc thread after all. Just calling it how perceive it. Good day
But final opinions/things to say before I’m off just to make what I’m saying clear so y’all do go misunderstanding me. This isn’t about getting all antsy over opinions necessarily but more or so to understand what I’m actually saying because it’s pretty common for a lot of people to misunderstand what I actually say: 1. Jesuit DOESN’T recruit older kids (whatever athletic says isn’t accurate. XC season = birthdays before Dec 31, Track season = birthdays from Jan 1st onwards) 2. People have CHOICES in whether to follow through with actually getting recruited, transferred, etc. Sure, there could be mfs just poaching (which is not cool and appropriate), but if someone is asked to join their team respectfully and not on sum shii, they have a choice to go or not. 3. Y’all like to drag Jesuit for recruiting practices when that’s just all private schools in general (it’s not like you guys don’t like to question Jserra when they get guys like Newman, who’s from Irvine, or Saul Orozco, who’s from Santa Ana- both being literally 25-30 min away from San Juan Capistrano. Or Elbaz who isn’t from OC or Chiara Boonami who’s from San Diego). And Public schools aren’t any different. When NP gets Christian Simone (who quite literally has bounced back and back between schools- I’m pretty sure he isn’t from Temecula or Ventura County since he went to Chaminade prior to both schools, which is in WEST HILLS) or Aaron Cantu, who’s literally an hour away from Newberry Park. Dana Hills got Jayden Hernandez and he’s from Santa Ana (again pretty far away from Dana Point). So let’s drag everyone equally. 4. What CoachB (someone who actually works within SJS track) said about the SJS 800 final. Anyways nuff said- peace
I think you are overthinking it. This is exactly what happened to Newbury Park and Great Oak when they were the center of attention for California XC/Track and Field. It is just what happens when you are the center of attention. The problem is jesuit doesn't have the same feats as those two powerhouse schools did. So it's easier to call them out on things they are doing and it's harder to defend them.
I agree with everything you said. I think it's time for California to lose its running fans and this forum should go. There is nothing to be excited about here. Out of state teams will go 1-7 on our teams again at Woodbridge then realize there are better races to participate in such as Desert Twilight and move on. The glory days are over people need to move on.
Well bah bye then. You continue to support teams that 1). get away with blatant recruiting with the archdiocese putting this under the run, 2). doctor videos (wtf Jesuit seriously) showing kids pushing others out of the way so that evidence is no longer available) and 3). don't actually live up to their jesuit mission statement. People don't necessarily have choices, can afford different tuition, carpool, etc. People have jobs, budgets, etc. The rich get richer through inauspicious means and you simply are a non apologizer for them instead of calling them out and coming up with a solution. I'm surprised that nobody has really mentioned Arnold O Beckman. They had an unfortunate post season, but they showed the nation what potential they had at Clovis, and after looking at their Athletic.net, they have very promising depth to replace their losses, their 2027 class seem to be probably their best class, they've gotten 2 transfers in both past two seasons.

But to make NXN they need to stay healthy. They crushed the Clovis invite, but they didn’t pan out at the state meet because their best runner had an injury and didn’t score
1) Jesuit. Won the merge last year, only 1 senior graduated. Could be top 5 at nationals, maybe better.
2) Beckman. Won the Clovis invite last year. Didn’t perform their best at state, but they return a 9:24 3200 average. They lost 4 varsity seniors, but Syed (9:22) and Barajas (9:30) are looking to be difference makers as Beckman reloads.
3) Matilda Torres. Took 4th in the state meet merge last year. Returning 3200 times are not the best, but I can see them peaking when it counts.
4) Mira Costa. Returns the best 1600 times besides Jesuit, but how well can this translate to XC?
5) Woodbridge. Returns their entire squad from last year. 9:27 3200 average and they have a very solid top 3 up front (9:05, 9:15, 9:20).
6) San Clemente. Outstanding program and coaching. This program has had high NXN finishes in the past. They managed to qualify for the state meet from a tough section even after losing their 1-6. They return everyone from last year.
7) Redondo Union. Took 8th in the state meet merge last year. They lose 4 seniors but they still return 3 guys from the state meet 16:00 and under (including one of the best incoming sophomores in the state), and 2 other guys who ran a 4:22 and 4:25.
8) Vacaville. Returns a 9:33 3200 average and will be a young team.
9) Campolindo. Took 13th at the state meet merge and returns 5 of their top 6. Looking to be the D3 state champs.

Kids go because they know Dana Hills is an elite program. Coach Tim Butler and Coach Craig Dunn do their best with what they get and they maximize kids potential because they buy into the program. So stop.

Its cause Butler retired. They still do pretty well developing individuals(Noonan, Hunter) but cant get the depth they need.

What happened was there was one year that neither Butler or Dunn were in charge of the program and that hurt their ability to get freshman to participate after Covid. Also the fact that Dana Hills has rapidly been losing enrollment ever since San Juan Hills opened. It’s the only D1 school in the Coast View Conference that has dropped two enrollment classifications.
