That’s pretty harsh. JTW is not the issue, he was great on IRP. It may just be that the FTK collectively has “cool kid” vibes and MTC can leave a sour taste in a lot of mouths in the running community
He was never great on irp. That road to nowhere series was constantly being derailed by his “comedy”. Guy thinks he’s Robin Williams. Just painful.
Absolutely right. No athlete should not be wasting time getting your partner to attack a competitor online because you are restricted by a confidentiality agreement. Or maybe it was "I'm too busy training, honey can you do it for me".
Sinead Diver lasted one KM. What a farce firstly she was selected after hardly showing any form in the last two years and secondly not giving up her spot like Robbo did when there have been rumours she has been injured for weeks.
I feel for Lisa. Robbed of being a five time Olympian.

Sinead would never give up her spot to Lisa, not in a million years. Such a a shame to see it all unfold like this for Lisa.

Also, discretion if it works like it should, if you don’t want to select the fastest qualifiers, choose athletes showing solid current form. That was not Sinead, but it was Lisa.

But AA insta puts out a promo of her jogging just yesterday. There's reports now she hasn't been running much for weeks. I had been a huge fan of Sinead but this just feels so bad. It's the issue of not putting your hand up and calling it like Brett did, and continuing to do deceptive press like you're a contender.
There is no real point AA doing the blame game, or just feeling hostile about the whole thing. They are a professional institution, they need to just sit down and discuss the things they didn’t do right. It is a very challenging thing to manage. I personally think Great Britain dealt with this well. Charlotte P wasn’t herself months ago, they probably worded up the alternative early. GB obviously have a different pre-race policy where things are more transparent, which is something AA can learn from. Charlotte ultimately pulled out , but still had the chance to see if she could make it work with the time she had right up to the race. She announced her departure from the team following an acute injury- which really helped her in regards to public reception.
Yes it’s incredibly hard . Financially for the athlete, mentally, emotionally and physically. But this is not an uncommon feeling with our sport. It’s almost designed to break your heart. There is always another race & another team & we all know that
Yeah definitely a chance for reflection and changes to be made by AA (doubtful they'll actually happen).
There's an additional layer of frustration with this that really, Sinead has known she was going to Paris since Valencia 2022. She might have been one of the first on the start line to know beyond reasonable doubt that she'd be picked. And it still went wrong, as it has for a high % of Australian's in the past few weeks with ties to MTC.
I'd hope MTC does some reflection too about how its preparing athletes for major championships. Hopefully this gives some more weight to the other groups around the country and ends the monopoly MTC have had for a long time now.

She has clearly been hiding a SERIOUS injury for WEEKS and not allowing the fittest next person qualified (Lisa) to have a crack in verging on un-Australian IMO.

Sinead Diver withdrew from the marathon after experiencing bilateral cramping in both quadriceps at Paris 2024.
She is devastated and being supported by team officials and medical staff. Despite managing Plantar fasciitis at times this year, there was no physical reason for Sinead to not compete today.

"When you're an athlete and you have something go wrong, you want to make it all about you and you want to talk about it and have everyone help you. Sinead? Never, ever. "She didn't want to make us be worrying about anything that wasn't important, and she just kept being like, 'I'm proud of you girls, go out there, give it everything'. "So I'm just in awe of what she would have been dealing with mentally in keeping it to herself and being a strong athlete."
