What exactly is the rule? High school athletes can get NIL deals. So if a high schooler competes against somebody with an NIL deal, they're competing against a pro.

What does racing as a "Pro" mean? If she isn't actually a Pro (not NIL as that is different), then it seems rather petty. If she races at BU (College and unattached basically), does that mean she raced as a Pro as there are Pro athletes in the field (she could get into a fast heat). Millrose might be different if there are explicitly Pro's only in the race (although the rules even for that are a bit murky). If SHE isn't directly being paid for her performance (a Pro), then what is the issue? Are we going back to the days when College athletes (in this case California HS) were tainted by being in a race with a Pro (see Prefontaine and the AAU back in the 1970's). Have we not moved beyond that yet?! Then b*tch and complain when runners like Laros and Myers run faster the US HSers (Kessler exempted) because they can access better competition. For a country that prides itself on freedom, it all seems a bit communist to me (let's hold everyone back to a level of equal mediocrity in the presumed interest of fairness).

Please list the names of 5 freshmen who were elite and got worse through high school.
Grace Ping, Amaris Tyynismaa, Abby van der Kooi, Claudia Lane, Gianna Rahmer off top of my head.
You should have done some research rather than using your head. I took a quick look at Ping, Tyynismaa, and Lane. They all had better years sophomore year from freshman year and then junior year was better yet.
and Rahmer is only half way through her freshman year. had a solid year but had a bad race at NXR and we are ready to call her career a failure?

Grace Ping got much slower throughout high school. She was 14th at NXN in 7th grade. In 8th grade she was 6th at NXN. Both incredible accomplishments. And both her best national finishes of the remainder of her career.
She didn't qualify in 9th grade, 10th she got 48th place at NXN, and didn't qualify after that. She did get into footlocker as a Jr after she was 12th at NXR. She placed 30th at footlocker.
She stuck with it despite never being at the level she was in MS and is still running. Good for her. She's a solid D1 runner at ok state.
You stated something that wasn't true and then disproved it yourself. She was great in JH. But she got better sophomore year and junior year over freshman year. That was the point.

The eligibility ban just lasts for the rest of the season as far as I know. So she competed vs pros and college students in track 2024 and was banned for the rest of the year from (or should have been according to their rules) CIF highschool meets and other meets that need to make sure the runners that participate are eligible (IE Arcadia shouldn't have let her run, but did)
After the end of track 2024 season, she was eligible to participate in all HS races again, so she was allowed to do XC.
Now that it's 2025 track season, she is eligible to race HS races until she does her first race against pros or college students after which she should be banned per the rules.

Sadie obviously wasn't banned last year so why post that incorrect information? Sadie was the CA state champion in the 1600 and the 4x800 in late May 2024.

Gotta love how this thread went from a topic about Sadie to a discussion about the progression / regression from the people from different eras
Sadie is old for her grade. She by age should be a freshman in college. So it’s really no big deal. She’ll enter college being 19 years old. It’s probably a good thing she skips track.
Aug 21 isn't old. It is right on the cutoff.
I turned 19 after XC Nationals my sophomore year.
I'm not sure what qualifies as dominating but she hasnt lost on the track in awhile and hold the National Record in the mile.
Why should we care about anecdotal information? You were in the wrong grade.
