I think Hassan thinks of herself primarily as a marathon runner now. Speed for a silver in the 5,000, less than a half second behind the worlds best, will allow her to dominate once she permanently makes her move to the marathon, full time.
When is the last time we saw a marathon runner medal in a world championship 5,000, as a tune-up race during marathon training, 6 weeks pre-race?
Not that it’s an excuse for that cluster but the ordering of the anchor legs was non-sensical. USA was never in 1st yet was on the inside. Our 3rd has to use extra energy doing a swim move to go to lane 1. Who knows if with none of that, the pass goes off normally. Never seen officials assume a pass like that.
If Sifan Hassan doesn't bother with the 1500m, could she be walking away with 2 gold medals? That round of the 1500m might've been just enough to tire her out at the end of that 10k, and honestly, I expected Kipyegon to blow her doors off that last 300m, but Hassan actually stayed close to til the line.
Wtf was Monson doing!? She knows she has no kick, cant just sit there waiting to be blown off the back like that
This is one instance where I'd like to see a Lewis Johnson interview - "you're not a kicker but a good strength runner. Take us through your thought process staying with the lead pack up to the final 600 in a slow race"
I could see Hassan doing either 2 things for Paris. The same triple or the 10k/marathon. I think if she decides she doesn't want to mess with the marathon again til after Paris she will be more prepared for the track triple. Her speed is still there.

The race with Tsegay was on a razor’s edge, so maybe yes in the 10. I don’t think she can beat Faith in the 5 no matter what she threw at her, even if Hassan only ran the 5000.
