Touhy is a young talent, has performed exceptional at the college level and pretty much has been silencing her critics. I commend both her and her coach for this. That said, there has been a lot of talent (Hull, Waymant, Kelati, Johnson, Orton, Schweizer, etc) in just the last couple of years that likely would have handled Touhy relatively pretty easily if they were to somehow have raced each other in college. The cream of the crop in women's collegiate distance running is quite sparse at the moment. Great depth, but not many heavy hitters IMO.
If they all could have easily handled Tuohy, why didn't they set college records and rack up titles?
Yes! I read this and was thinking the same thing. At least for indoor, Tuohy now holds records in the mile and 3k (barely missed the 5k record too) and had one of the most exciting XC comebacks of all time to win. She is undefeated in NCAA championships over the last 3 seasons.
I also think there is plenty of talent in the NCAA presently. Valby is a very formidable competitor when she is not injured, Markezich, Maatoug, Appleton, Chelengat, Olemomoi, Gregory and others are also very good. It seems almost disrespectful to dismiss these excellent athletes as not being “heavy hitters”.
How many more pages in this thread on weak result of USA's overhyped distance runner?
She didn't compete at the 2019 Pan American U20 Champs, US didn't compete at the 2021 U20 Worlds in Nairobi - thus she has no major medals at all (Anna Hall won the title at the former, Roisin Willis at the latter).
She ran some HS records that no one cares about as they do not necessarily translate into big senior career.
She set some NCAA records that no one cares about as these are just "U23 records" translating into world jargon. SML and Athing Mu have only fun of those...
So she has one national U20 record and that's all. That is true that US record is worth more than Luxembourg or New Zealand record due to population size disparity but that's all.
So how many posts more defending her weak performance?
She’ll adjust (either by modifying her prep or slowing down a bit in the beginning) as she always has after a loss. I don’t believe it was a good idea to hold her out of competition this long. Racing is in her blood and there’s no substitute.
How many trolls are keeping this going? I literally think it's one guy?
The disgruntled dudek fan! Really just a hater who kept betting on the wrong athletes and misjudging reality... And too bitter too admit that he was wrong....
Maybe the admins can weigh in and let us know how many actual IP addresses are trolling?
Looking at the splits, Koko sat on Tuohy for at least the first 1100, and then aced her toward the finish. Makes me wonder how much Koko had left in the tank, and how much faster she could have run in a faster field.

watch the video, Koko hardly sat on Tuohy for the first 800....there was a gap that she closed by 1000 when Tuohy slowed
I don't really agree with it not being a focus, it was paced for 4:02/4:03 which would gave been a big PR.
Simpson record splits:
47.72, 65.36, 64.78, 62.05
Tuohy
47.75, 65.25, 67.70, 67.60
9n the recording, the In stadium announcer said she was on pace for the record at some point early in the race and she was pretty much exact.
I think they were going for major PR or the record. It didn't happen for whatever reason but it's good to try.
it still seems a little odd to me that she slowed at 800 m immediately to 67.5 pace which she then ran for the last 700 - every 200 being 33.5-34. Must have known at 800 she needed to slow.
Yes. You could tell from how the race was set up that Tuohy was being paced for a very low 4:00s while Koko and her teammates were running for about 5 seconds slower. It just wasn't KT's night. But the season has just begun.

I think so. My guess she slowed down because she wasnt feeling it and just didn't have a kick for the last lap either.
Bush and Chmiel both positive split their last laps in their respective races, and Chmiel had a minor blow up in the raleigh relays 10k also.

Wouldn’t surprise me…or two guys vying for chief troll title.
