Eric Hoffer: “What starts out here as a mass movement ends up as a racket, a cult, or a corporation.”
The civil rights movement has certainly reached that stage although with an 'and' not an 'or'.
Racket: folks such as Jesse Jackson have become pretty good at shaking down corporations.
Cult: The "diversity is strength" thing has become the tenet of a cult like secular religion.
Corporation: takeover of a lot of institutions and corporations is pretty complete.
Jussie Smollett shows all three in action: he wanted to up his standing in the cult and get his employer to give him a raise rather than cancel the show.
Maybe "Get Woke, Go Broke" will make some difference in push back, but I suspect Jussie's 'mugging', as well as the accusation in this thread, didn't work because it could be checked. You need to stay with things that are either true or can't be proven one way or the other.
Problem is the civil rights movement was successful, so there is not enough racism around to justify. For example: "The University of Michigan employs nearly 100 full-time
diversity-related administrative staffers, costing almost $8.4 million a year, according to a recent analysis. Over a quarter of the staff (26) collect annual salaries of over $100,000." One hundred full time, highly paid, staffers. They need something to justify their existence.
