Not only the ultra and trail GOAT but the indisputable RUNNING GOAT
His range and longevity is simply incredible. Winning this race 14 years apart and setting new course records right towards the end of his career, nobody does that !
Is this a joke?
Have you heard of someone named Eliud Kipchoge? You think he's better than Kipchoge?
You think he's better than this?
2003 World title in the 5000 over El G and Bekele. Ran 12:52 that year. 2018- 2:01:39 marathon WR. That's 15 years apart . 2022 - 4 years later. Runs 2:02:40. Get back to me when Jornet does anything like 12:52 and then 2:02:49 19 years later.
Plus don't a lot of people think he's on drugs? I was stunned when i did the deep dive into running the ultra scene and I heard those rumors. I figured trails world was pure as snow.
You are a joke rojo. Of course we are talking about TRAIL running not road running. Please provide some facts about the drug use of Kilian Jornet.

Kipchoge runs well between 5000-42000 meters. Thats 37000 meters. Killian runs well between 40000-200000 meters. Thats 160000 meters. Kipchoge only runs well on artificial flat surfaces. Killian runs well on the most important surfaces, which cover most of walkable/runnable terrain on Earth and those are natural surface walking & hiking hiking paths.
You really think Kipchoge is better than that??
Also, unlike Killian, there is absolutely no doubt Kipchoge is on drugs. Compared to mountain/ultra running, track (and esp. road racing) is worse than the Tour de France. Its a joke.
Rojo just stay out of this thread. This is a different sport we're talking about. You don't know anything about trail running. For once can you not overreach your limited knowledge. Just stfu
Kilian has cemented himself as the ultra GOAT and it's not even close at this point. Hardrock course record then a month later UTMB course record. He's not even human.
Like, if there was any debate, he went ahead and had a crazy crazy year. One thing to show up to Western States every year like Jurek, another thing to go all over and dominate a single season as well
Overall the live coverage of this event is absurdly good, especially with all the footage from out in the trails. Better coverage than some major marathons.
But the commentators need to be given one rule: if there's an interview happening on camera, or someone on the ground talking about the current state of the race, please shut up. Talking over the finish line interviews of men's top 5 finishers to tell us about about the time gap between women's 4th and 5th place instead of just waiting 2 more minutes until the interview is over to fill in the viewers is insane.
This has the potential to be outrageously good coverage if the commentators just had a little awareness to know when to stop talking occasionally.
LetsRun still doesn't disappoint. Why celebrate an achievement when you can compare it to something tangentially related, and use that as an argument to call the achievement sub-par?
Kudos to Kílian for the first ever finish under 20 hours, and kudos to Mathieu Blanchard for the same feat.

As the founder and unofficial (light) moderator of this thread, I am both honored that Rojo dropped in and horrified with the result. Comically listing out Kipchoge's running career as if none of us already know, while at the same time not having a clue about the MUT world is pure bush league/ comedy gold. As I've said from the beginning, this thread is for fans of one of the greatest running events in the world - trolls please go elsewhere.

Didn’t Killian say he got “inspired” when he got passed when was second and then became third? Makes everything that happened all that more impressive because he make back and then also set a new CR. Really shows how his mind work and also the race between him and Mathieu Blanchard made them both better.
For these long mountain races I think Jim needs to take a page from the Killian and Francois 2022 HR textbook and he needs to run with the leaders in these races, then close strong, instead of being THE leader and burning up too soon

TOTALLY agree. At Courmeyer they had both English and French in-person interviewers and commentators, but the English broadcast kept trying to talk over them. I had to switch it to the French one so I could actually understand what the in-person interviewers were saying.
Agreed with the footage though - incredible drone shots and following shots even through crazy forested areas. Split screens with first and second, or male and female leaders. Meanwhile Boston coverage is wheelchairs for the first hour followed by CJ Albertson shots for the next half hour.

agreed. I really get the idea that kilian is ultra-secure in his fitness and legacy, and he is having a blast. He's just like excited when someone comes out and punches him in the teeth. What a great attitude, something I think MOST racers could learn from
Observation (based off Jim's finish line interview):
When he rolled away to a big gap on the descent off Ferret, I thought he was just flowing his natural talent on that type terrain, but not purposely "putting on a move". So I figured he'd have plenty left to take on the last (gruesome) 50k. But as it turns out, he stated he was "putting on a move" there. And from my perspective, that's what cost him. Anyone who's done that final 50k knows you have to save something in the tank.

This exactly. He was running that gradual downhill like he was headed to the finish, rather than about to head through a sawtooth elevation profile for the last 50k. In the moment it looked foolish but I didn't want to be a debbie downer. Now I can be lol
