A little late for anybody, including her, to ask this now. All coaches and athletes know the rules.

Big respect for Sha’Carri to completely own up to her mistake.
I hope this initiates USADA/WADA to remove weed from the banned list and I hope Sha’Carri can anchor the 4x100 in Tokyo.

She's supposed to not use a legal, non performance enhancing drug because some dumb ass rule says so? Plenty of people use weed for anxiety relief, pain relief, etc. Nobody uses it for athletic enhancement.
“Plenty of people use weed for anxiety relief, pain relief, etc.”. That doesn’t sound like a possible performance enhancement to you?
I’m mostly playing devils advocate here and I agree with you. Most people who have smoked know that it’s not reaaaaaaly a PED. That being said I had multiple teammates in college that would smoke before a workout or long run as it helped mellow them out. Did it work for me? Absolutely not, but some people do find it beneficial.
Once again, weed should not be considered a PED. I feel so bad for Sha’carri, but she’s most likely missing an Olympic medal because of this.
I frequently smoke after and occasionally before runs to deal with knee pain, so I guess you could say it enhances my performance.
But I mean if straight pain relief is the standard for what’s ‘performance enhancing’ then we might as well go ahead and ban Advil, icy hot, cortisone shots, etc.
Wow. Up to now I though she was pseudo-train-wreck. Now I know she's the real deal. Well, she wants attention, and she's got it. I would sympathize if I didn't think she doped.
For information...

God she is dumb as rock. Dumb dumb dumb. Why would you do this, knowing you have the goods to defeat the world. Just crazy. Its probably about time to take weed off the list too. Maybe hybrid punishment...take her out of 100, keep her in 4 x 1? Hate to see her miss olympics for pure stupidity but needs a lesson.

Maybe if he had smoked some weed he would have been more relaxed about it.
Lol you are calling his dad abusive because he disciplined his child. Clearly you are one of those people who believe in participation trophies
There’s a difference between spanking a kid a bit and ‘the beating of a lifetime’ with a belt for eating a cookie.
Not sure how that relates to trophies.

I know people are trolling on here but its hilarious how much some of you just gush over rule following. We love the rules!
No one understands that the rules and regulations, lawyers and litigations, quibblers and pecksniffs in the US have created a web of hairsplitting and often contradictory laws and mandates that make us all criminals most of the time. In such situations, common sense cries out for leniency, or we would all be in jail. Common sense tells us that with cannabis dispensers on every corner and cannabis investment pitches everywhere, marijuana is no longer criminalized in the US and there is no reason for anyone to imagine that it is. Since it is manifestly not a PED--it blisses you out as I understand it--it is clearly beyond the jurisdiction of the PEDophiles and PEDophasters.
Maybe she should follow the rules. Deserves to miss out if she’s this stupid.
Couldn't see this one coming from a mile a way. She was a train wreck waiting to happen.

If you're only following rules for fear of punishment while simultaneously thinking think they are idiotic (and they are indeed idiotic in this case), should those rules exist? And if everyone in your workplace agrees they are idiotic and breaks those rules, but only one person gets caught and punished, would you not advocate on their behalf or at the very least try and get them some sort of leniency? I'm not advocating for actively skirting the system or breaking rules, I'm simply saying that if you are upholding a rule for the sake of upholding a rule, what is the point of it? I'm certain where the majority of the public will land on this issue, and your are in the minority, but we'll see what the authoritative bodies will do with this.
Certain eh?
Your defense is that she knowingly and intentionally broke a rule that shouldnt exist, so she should get some leniency?
Growing up my dad would take the belt to me whenever I took a cookie out of the jar past 9pm. He told me straight "boy, if I catch you in that cupboard getting a cookie past 9, you're gonna get it" But 8 year old me still wanted that cookie. So I still did it. Never got caught. Except one night I knocked over a spoon that was on the counter and he caught me literally with my hand in the cookie jar. I got the beating of a lifetime. Stupid rule. But I knew the consequences.
Dude, you’re an idiot and your weird fetishization for finger-wagging and punishment is why the United States has the highest incarcerated population in the world. But yeah, you’re SO logical and fair and they’re an idiot because they don’t see the world in black and white like some 8 year old who is still rubbing his bottom from getting spanked for grabbing a cookie. And yes, I am also certain that most people who hear about this will not automatically say ‘rules are rules’ and will instead say ‘why tf is someone missing the Olympics over something that my grandma has been rubbing on her elbows’. Would you be the type of person prosecuting people for sodomy in the 90s? Rules are rules right? Grow tf up boomer

Lol, USATF claims to care about athlete health and well being yet decides to go forward with a track meet in 110 degree temperatures. Sure whatever.
yea this is a weak statement from USATF....they need better PR people here sheesh.
Frankly, their statement should have validated Sha'carri's difficult situation with losing her mom, acknowledge that she took the cbd in a legally in her state, and maybe have even said that they will try with everything in their power to keep her in the Olympic spot she earned.
Like this: "We are incredibly saddened by the recent news regarding Sha'carri involving the loss of her mother. We find it equally distressing that a substance taken legally within the state of Colorado by Sha'carri during this difficult time may now prevent her from competing in the Olympic spot she earned at the trials last week. Our thoughts are with Sha'carri during this time. USATF will do everything in it's power to advocate for Sha'carri during this time and will
provide updates as they are received."
YES! Not just just a weak statement by USATF, as they virtue signaled to the world how much they care about Sha'Carri, but they took her self-described "emotional" situation and unfortunate solution and turned it into "...we will work with Sha'Carri to ensure she has ample resources to overcome any mental health challenges now and in the future..." . IF Sha'Carri has mental health issues she wishes to disclose, she should do that, not USATF.
This is the American Psychiatric Associations counsel about reporting on mental health issues.
https://www.psychiatry.org/newsroom/reporting-on-mental-health-conditionsTo the specifics of what USATF wrote, I don't believe the APA would consider this Oregon legal self-medication to be clinical "Substance Use Disorder" unless USATF had a proper evaluation under the full DSM-5 criteria done on her mental health to release the statement as they worded it indicating SUD or were provided with it.
There is also the possibility USATF knows more about any medical/psychological issues, but back to my earlier point, It would be up to Sha'Carri to say more about that than that she was emotional after the death of her mother and sought relief in an internationally banned substance. (as benign as it may or MAY NOT be)

You grow up
For weed???
Gimme a break. I vape cannabis occasionally and legally. Not performance enhancing in the least. This is insane. I hope she gets this reversed.
Hoolihan ,its a tragedy. Richardson make a flipping petition to overturn ban Naser good news. Lets run is a joke however most of the posters have seen through this crap
Well at least she owned it and didn’t blame a tainted taco.
Shame on the dingdongs that have signed this dum petition. This is all a farce she was dum now has to live with the consequences. Athletes are so dum

this statement is actually good news to me, in that it doesn't explicitly say Sha'Carri is removed from any specific event. what was disappointing was her today show interview where she seemed to be assuming she wouldn't be at the Olympics at all:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_KJYC7Ju-Y8i just wish her tone about this was more combative than somber, because nothing formal has been announced yet.
