So, I am an old and retired D-I coach who likes to pop on to this specific thread, just to see what is happening with the jobs movement every summer. What is notable to me is the incredible amount of turnover and what seems like "stepping away" that I am seeing in this thread, especially from the "new fresh blood" that has been heralded into the college coaching ranks within the past couple of years. It seems like no one is really sticking to it, and I am not talking about staying at one place, I understand the need to better your position for you and your family. I am talking about young people even staying in the college coaching biz.
A few years ago, there was a loud call out for the old school to step away and let the young guys get a crack at building something. In the year before COVID and after, we saw a lot of old timers retire, or get retired. And in the past 2 years, there have also been some big names retire as well.
But as I said, it seems like I am seeing some of these younger people, both male and female, who have been given a shot, just step away before they really put in any time and built something or had any real success. It seems to be at all levels, from D-I to NAIA.
It has caused a bunch of frenetic movement. Am I off and just seeing things, or is there something to this?
