Former U.S. Attorney Chuck Rosenberg, now an NBC News analyst, says there's a high bar for having a wiretap approved.

"The affidavits are typically highly detailed and carefully vetted by experienced lawyers," he said. "In all cases the wiretap must be approved by a federal judge."

Rosenberg said that wiretaps are usually approved for an investigation into a current crime and not solely for possible crimes that have been committed in the past.

"This is an exacting process where the government must demonstrate to a federal judge that there is an ongoing crime."

Time will tell. I don't see more than 2 years from now "soon". Seriously bad stuff has occurred. Mueller is on top of it and after being on the job less than a year he has admission of guilty and/or indictments of 19 people. He is now bringing up the idea that he may subpoena to get Trump to talk. This means he is close.

If I am wrong about anything, it will be how quickly this wraps up, but Trump WILL pay the price for messing with America...and that is what he did. Republicans don't have a monopoly on patriotism, and right now anyone backing Trump has none of that.

I am not naive...corruption happens in both parties and all levels of government. There are degrees of corruption though, and Trump is WAY over any acceptable line.

Also, he is the President of the United States. Even IF someone else somewhere else were as corrupt as he is (no one in American politics is), the President has the ability to cause the most harm. I have always voted in such a way that tried to prevent one party from being in control of the three branches of national government. Dem or Repub it make no difference. They are incapable of imposing checks and balances on themselves. The results of one party control are obvious for all to see under Trump. He is a political anomaly. One who has gotten away with cheating the system for so long that he can not see right for wrong; he only sees himself.

What Trump is doing is accelerating the future of the U.S. drop to a 2nd tier nation. Some people will refuse to accept that, they will scream and holler, but history has always proven that self-dealing world leaderships always fall apart and to the wayside. China, Persia, Rome, Germany, Britain, and on it goes. That the U.S. has lasted as long as it has as the primary world power—a result of WWII's destruction of major powers with the mainland U.S. untouched—, in this day and age is extraordinary. But the end of that is on the way; accelerated by Trump.
