Russia always pounds civilian targets when Ukraine has successes in their response to Russia's invasion. Ukraine has been pounding Russia's oil and gas infrastructure so badly that Russians are now facing gasoline shortages and related inflation. Russia's economy is cooling with GDP forecasted to be about 1.5%, which probably means that Russia is actually in a recession. And with Trump actually following through on a 50% tariff on India for buying discounted Russian oil, Putin may lose a huge revenue stream if Modi gives in to Trump.

It is next level delusion to think Russia is going to quit for any economic reason. They produce their own energy, food, and weapons.
