And EVERY nation on earth would ramp up their military ahead of the negotiated end of a conflict because the more territory you have the more leverage you have at the negotiating table.
You think like a 4 year old.
The Korean war raged on for 2 years longer than it should have because both sides were committed to this tactic. Armistice talks started in 1951, but each side took turns launching major offensives thinking that success on the battlefield would give them leverage at the negotiating table. Neither side saw either and the war was a virtual stalemate from 1951-53.
Russia does this because Russians think that they can use peace talks as a way to gain advantage on the battlefield. They use cease fires to get time to rebuild and equip forces. They use peace negotiations to lull the other side into believing that the conflict will end soon only to then launch a major offensive.
Your ignorance is showing.
Korea was a stalemate. Russia is winning the war and Ukraine cant stop them.
Russia already has the advantage on the battlefield. They dont care if there's peace or not.

I think Putin wants the same thing as as he has always wanted--Ukraine to give up and give Russia whatever they want. And Putin had Trump echoing whatever Putin said, but then Trump got too far away, and due to his weak memory and his incessant need for flattery, Trump started saying other stuff, like stuff about wanting a ceasefire.
But Putin put Trump back on track, and gave him his marching orders again.
Now we see if Putin's little boy Trump can actually make Ukraine do what Putin wants.
We can see the Europeans have learned that you have to flatter Trump constantly to get his attention--that you have to be careful because his ego cannot handle any type of criticism at all.
Trump is doing good things for Rusia all the time. may ask yourself why? he has only barked at Putin. only talk and no action. Russia wasn't even on the sanctions list. it really looks like Trump owes Putin a lot somehow. sad story. Zelenski and Europe will be thrown under the bus. who Says Putin wil drop his imperial plans after he gets a part of Ukrainian.
looks like a sacrifice for the interest of the US with a high risk of screwing the Europeans.

Trump entered office inheriting a losing proxy war in Ukraine. Sanctions won't change the battlefield so what cards does Trump have to play? Either negotiate with Putin or continue to watch the war of attrition that Russia will inevitably win.
"Ukraine’s leadership has quietly come to accept that it doesn’t have the military strength to get its borders back in full. Last week, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky indicated his willingness to negotiate about territory in video calls with President Trump and European leaders—after a cease-fire that freezes the current front line."

Not sure but he’s definitely playing the correct ones.
Sit back for seven months while Russia increase attacks on Ukraine since his Inauguration and now go to bat for more territory for Russia. Yep he’s definitely got the right idea.
This is ABC News reporter Rachel Scott. She is the only reporter who have stood up to both Putin and Comrade Trumpski Von Bonespure. She is the one who asked Putin if he will stop killing Ukrainian civilians during the Alaska...
