Hey I have a quick question, are GAs considered as part time staff? Do they receive the benefits of part time staff?

Alot of people turned down this job, she wasn't the first to be offered

Enlighten the crowd. Why would multiple people turn down the position?

There were men with many years of experience who didn't get offered the job...

Do some research lol. Where is that program going? Where is that conference going? It's a shame to see what's happened to what used to be great programs. Still some high quality athletes here and there, but the end is near when a conference barely only has a couple of teams that sponsor men+women all 3 seasons.

I'm sure those whom applied researched the institution they applied to work for. Thus, after going through an entire INTERNAL process, supposedly it is assumed WOMEN said no. So, again my question stands.

You guys pick and choose what experience counts and doesn’t count. She volunteered at Indiana for five years when their women started getting pretty good. Assuming she got the job, then consider she was an elite athlete for about ten years, paid her dues at a Big Ten level, got a year at Ball State full time, and now people are upset that she’s at best the fourth choice (I heard three people definitely turned it down) for Ohio, one of the worst teams in the MAC? Adding on to this, it's only men's xc but women's xc, Indoor and Outdoor. They were looking for a female.....as they should

All outstanding points. I would add that she also has experience coaching in a program that does not offer Mens TF and did an outstanding job in that year. I'd be highly surprised if the OU Director's position was especially high paying. The salary for the assistants is not likely to be exorbitant as well. Add to that the lack of a competition indoor facility. Yes, I realize they have a place to train, but that's not the same as being able to host recruits during a home indoor contest-especially when 2 of your state of Ohio MAC peers have 300 meter facilities. And, yes, I realize that Miami does well without one, but they are far more established all the way around AND have a mens program, which is a big draw for recruits. It would be interesting to find out if they are fully funded for scholarships. My guess is yes, but it would not surprise me if they were not. What she is walking into is a MAJOR rebuilding project as they were a major non factor at the conference level this year.

This definitely is my favorite post on this whole thread. From now on, if people want to roast someone's resume after a hire, they have to submit their own for our analysis.

Depends on the school. You do not get the same benefits as a full-time employee, such as health insurance, retirement contributions, discounts, etc. Most schools offer a student insurance plan that any student can purchase. A few schools may pay this for you or offer you a chance to purchase the employee health insurance as a single. You will get issued gear, but not necessarily a personal apparel allotment if the staff receives one. In the old days, P5 type schools might let you 'sneak in' to the athletic dining hall.

Ummm... can the person who made the comment about Idaho present where they are getting their info? Can they cite any lynchings that have taken place? I'm pretty sure that any minority people traveling through Idaho, made it out without a scratch, and the likelyness of being attacked in Balt. or Philly, is FAR higher than Idaho.
