Laura Harmon is entering her first year of coaching with the Washington State University cross country and track & field programs in 2022-23 as she continues a decorated
Does anyone know about what's happening at Brown? There are a lot of Open Positions out of seemingly nowhere. I'm interested in applying but want to know if it's a good idea.
Knowing the Ivy’s they have had people in to interview and have their candidates lined up. No coaching position at an Ivy League school (or most any school) goes thru an open application process, it’s a formality. But this is especially true at the Ivy’s. Sadly you are late to the party. These jobs were open weeks before they were posted. Brown has been a bottom feeder at Heps so hopefully they can make a big move or two, but given their recent track record I wouldn’t hold my breathe. Expect Ivy League retreads or some 20 something fresh face stop watch holder who was coached by someone who was coached by someone. I’d throw in alums potentially but the fact that they just ran a former NCAA champion/Olympian Alum out of town tells me they may skip that idea this hiring cycle and save it for the inevitable next hiring cycle… which will probably happen sooner than later.
7 coaching positions in 9 years. This would be the 8th. Would be genius level move by UCLA.
7 in 9 years? My goodness. Bet we will be saying that about Mires from UofL one day.
Assuming it’s true, Harmon jumping ship is also a reflection on the state of the coaching staff at Washington State—three female distance coaches in less than three years. With the end of the Pac 12, guessing that the entire staff including Wayne Phipps, is looking to leave.
Hopefully UCLA gave her a living allowance to get a decent place to live. Otherwise UCLA is going back to the same predicament they’re in.
She joined the team last summer and didn't start getting paid until August. So that's for 6 months of pay for the role of assistant coach. Still not very good pay but it explains some.
She was just promoted to Associate Head Coach Cross Country and would have made more, but another school gave her a better offer. (No word on that school yet)

Word from the inside is that they’re trying to bump pay to $30k/year to steal Brosnan
