You could also afford a house on one income and pay for college by working 1 summer job at McDonalds when you were my age.
I was a broke grad student basically living in an attic and scrapping by to get my first coaching gig. Don't act like younger people aren't willing to make sacrifices. Understand that you grew up in a very different economic landscape. Just showing up and working hard is not the same as it was in your generation.
You guys are the biggest whiners ever. Amherst is offering 36k, which is more than 17 dollars per hour.
That part time job is offering 15k per year. Any high school coach making 3k per year would love to upgrade and earn more while getting college experience and still being a full time teacher.
The economy sucks, blame the politicians. But there's no need to cry about schools providing entry evel positions less than 100k per year. Some young coaches will take advantage of these opportunities and in 10-15 years will be head coach of top 10 teams nationally.
Rumor was out weeks ago about this hire - long before the interviews took place. New director is not necessarily looking for qualified... from my vantage point he's looking to add "yes" men and women around him. He spent the past year trying to leapfrog now "retired" director to put himseslf in this position.

Marshall Leonard to Campbell lock it in. Eastern NC ties and the ultimate program uilder
It was a perfect time for him to jump ship from Campbell. Almost the whole men's track team was seniors, and about 40 % of the women's track team was seniors. The XC program has definitely dropped off the map since he arrived. He moved the money from XC to the sprints, thus the drop in talent in the distance group.
If Campbell wants to rebuild, Marshall Leonard would be a great addition to bring athletes to the program. Not exactly how successful the teams would be, but he has a proven ability to get programs off the ground and heading in the right direction.
Iowa State assistant, Cale Wallace, to take over mens distance at Florida State. Expect announcement to come out later this week. Who replaces him in Ames?
True. New Director reached out to many people - even before he was announced as director. But role changes to include most if not all of the ops too. Seems coaching is not the priority so fits this pick.
FLORENCE, Ala. (August 7, 2024) – University of North Alabama Director of Athletics Dr. Josh Looney announced a new leader for the UNA men's and women's cross country
HICKORY, NC - Kevin Paterson, the Lenoir-Rhyne Head Cross Country/Track & Field Coach since 2019, has announced he will be stepping down from his role to take the
I am not coming at your point but how can coaching not be the priority, as a previous women's only director and coach. He is putting together a staff that will rival the inexperience of Porche's at Dartmouth and they haven't even found someone willing to accept the sprints position yet.
Brian Biekert who coaches at Southern Illlinois and former ISU runner, has informed his team that he will be leaving, so this seems a likely destination.
That dude is the Devin West of distance running
False. There’s a difference when someone is in their first few jobs and doesn’t have full autonomy over a group. No reason to stay long at those places when the point of those jobs is to get experience to move up. There’s a difference between indiscriminate moving and climbing the ladder.
You’d think a school that charges $88k per student and a $3BILLION endowment could afford to pay more than $15/hr to a coach.
Nope that’s going to the president’s cabinet salaries and the president’s yearly bonuses for essentially working at the same capacity as most good college coaches.
