Now that some of the details have emerged, it is clear from the UK trade deal that Trump is completely inept when it comes to developing any sort of industrial policy to redevelop US manufacturing. Trump lowered tariffs on vehicles made in the UK (Jaguar, Land Rover, Mini) to 10% but kept a 25% tariff in place on US manufacturers who assemble vehicles in Mexico or Canada and a 25% tariff on foreign parts used in US assembled vehicles. That means it is cheaper to make vehicles in the UK than it is to do so in the USMC trade zone (the one that Trump negotiated).

yeah US car makers are screaming at trump that he's actually favoring the UK over home grown car makers with this 'deal' that isn't actually a deal just a framework.
this is what happens when you put the JV team in the White House. Utter chaos and counterproductive messes.
