If more white coaches would apply to HBCUs im sure they would get hired, they are more than welcomes, but are afraid to apply.

You mean they had Tonja a world class program, Wayne was just OK. Turk has basically turned them into an ok Conference team(If that)
I'm pretty sure the Illinois men have won a Big Ten outdoor title under Turk. I don't think Tonja ever accomplished that as a head coach.
Wayne rode out Wieneke's last staff's recruits and then the bottom fell out. Turk picked up the pieces and built a team that won a Big Ten title.

That was the wrong field event coach to fire. Wonder if he was upset for not being hired as the director over sparks.
Sparks is a good guy, has great recruits coming in, and he qualified women in distance at the 1500, 5000, and 2 at the 10k last year - his position group. Let’s see what he can do with his own system and people.
ND Administration is a joke. Sparks is guaranteed to injure his athletes. All end up hurt and sit out several seasons and years. Expect about 4 or 5 distance kids lining up, with nothing in jumps, throws or sprints.
Who are his assistant coaches? Nobody is going to work with him. He will be done in a few years for underperformance and embezzlement.

Why would the number of black athletes drop? Blacks are the majority in the sport and have been for over 40 years. Many former black athletes are coaching at every level and black athletes are the dominate ones at every level. To assume that an increase of black college coaches would cause a decrease in blacks at the highest levels is absurd and borderline racist.

I won’t pile on Sparks for not being top choice (that’s not his fault), but it’s deja vu from Alan Turner hire. Those most qualified turn down or decline to be interviewed at all and they have no choice but to promote from within. It says a lot about the commitment from administration if twice in 5 years you can’t attract interest.
