Let's analyze this without the emotions. We all know Hamas is a terrorist organization that is going to carry out terrorism when possible. So the expectation is that an at-risk country like Israel needs to secure itself. So yes while Hamas is completely responsible for the massacre, it should have been prevented by Israel. We also have proof in recent history that you can't beat terrorists with bombs and open warfare. The world is also aware that Palestinians live restricted and cr@ppy lives due to limitations imposed by Israel and being ruled by Hamas. So an optimal response here should not involve the mass killing of Palestinian civilians or what is increasingly looking like indiscriminate bombings. Oh, and it might not be smart to drop bombs on hostages. They should have paused, focused on the mourning, solicited as much international support as possible, then with cool heads (what leaders of democracy are supposed to do) come out with a reasonable and surgical plan for removing Hamas. This was all shoot first and don't even ask questions later.
