A question for any of you Ukraine-Russia war experts: How much longer is this war going to continue? 🤔 (I haven't paid attention to this thread for months, maybe even a year).
The American Civil War went on for 4 months before the South surrendered (1861-1865). However, after the defeat at Gettysburg (1863), it was pretty much over for the South & they fought a losing defensive war over the next two years.
So, how long will this war go on between Ukraine & Russia? Who's winning? Someone has got to capitulate soon...I would think? (both sides have must be running short on manpower?).
I don't know much about the conflict over there (I'm more of a American war historian). So, I just wondered who's winning, and how much longer can it go on for? 🤔
World War 2 was decided in 1942 and the fighting went on for over 2 more years.
The war is over. Russia won.
Ukraine can keep fighting for years with western support. They will never get a better deal at the negotiating table than they could get right now. They will never get the deal they could have gotten in February 2022 if they capitulated immediately.
That's true with the European campaign. Same with the Pacific compaign. The Imperial Japanese Navy was annihilated at the Battle of Midway in 1942 & the war was all but over for Japan. But the fighting continue on for 3 more bloody years before Japan surrendered only after two A-bombs were dropped on then.
If Ukraine continues to get that Western support, how many years do think the war will actually continue on? Could it turn into something like the Vietnam War that lasted for around 19 yrs?
Russian President Vladimir Putin is ready to halt the war in Ukraine with a negotiated ceasefire that recognises the current battlefield lines, four Russian sources told Reuters, saying he is prepared to fight on if Kyiv and...

The resolve the Germans had not to be conquered by the Soviets and the resolve the Japanese had not to be conquered by anyone is exponentially stronger than the Ukrainian will to not have a government that's largely undistinguishable from the one they've always had.
I don't see Ukrainian men being willing to fight a losing battle for multiple years when there's absolutely no upside.
The longer Ukraine fights the worse the outcome becomes for them. There is no scenario where they can win.
The war will be over by this time next year, one way or another. Russia will keep at least 4 and as many as 8 eastern oblasts. Russia wins.
you’ve made this claim dozens of times, you keep moving the goalposts. 1 week, within a month, by this spring, after the summer offensive, within a year, within the next year, now you’re saying next year…. maybe 2027 will be your next guess.
Anyways, Ukrainian drones sunk two more russian warships tonight in Crimea.
Russian helicopters tried to destroy the ukrainian drones and failed. Womp womp. Russian cannot even protect Crimean warships after 10 years of illegally annexing it. How many more russians must die before they all decide to simply return to russia? They are not fighting NATO, or homosexuals, or nazis, they are simply dying to drones in fields while us americans laugh at them on reddit and donate money to our favorite ukrainian drone units.
We Americans understand the right to defend our own land. If only republicans would quit allowing hordes of migrants to flow into the southern border so we could lock it down too. They keep veto’ing the bill that allows us to deport them.

Biden caused the border crisis by stopping Trump’s policies.

Good clip of Ukrainian paratroopers taking prisoners during the ongoing defense of Chasiv Yar. Ukrainians have pushed them back out of the city. At one point a few surviving spetznaz held a single building in the city so the ukrainians leveled it with a risky Su-25 strike on the frontlines. Since then they have pushed 3 kilometers into russian lines.
Note how the Ukrainians are relatively kind and offer the invader a smoke.
