Who's still out there? Who do you think ISU will want to coach their athletes and will not be a simple one year fix until more coaches are around.
If this is true about Reedus that puts ISU in a tough spot. Perhaps they could go back to one of their other finalists for the position but that could potentially be a touchy deal since you already told them you were going to hire someone else. Could potentially limit their interest in the position now.

Lets be real here...no rumor about an assistant coach at OU will affect recruiting more negatively than Martin Smith's already shady past/present/future.
I have no dog in the fight here, but rumors might be rumors...However truth is truth. And trends that lead you to believe something is true, while not true themselves certainly make you think twice about things.
How many athletes who have run for Martin have actually enjoyed the experience? How many have hated it and transferred/quit? How many were there, but didn't like the way he treated them? Until we have answers to those questions, I'm sure the fact that their assistant may or may not be leaving really carries no merit.
Oh, and ask Martin's other former assistants about how much they enjoyed spending a few months in Norman prior to getting the boot for another to enter the ever revolving door that is Oklahoma Cross Country/Track. Maybe this guy wants to get out...perhaps we should be applauding him?
No, he is not leaving, it is for an assistant coach position.
Ugh. Any woman who leaves her job and life for a guy can't even coach herself emotionally, let alone other athletes. They should be solid in themselves and by themselves first before advising others. Coaches are used to unhealthy hours and I think lose perspective. A full and happy life should be balanced somewhat with career, family, and a relationship. if you make one more important than another things start falling apart.
BALANCE in the sports of XC/T&F is SUPER difficult, but possible if you 1). give up on trying to be "successful" or 2). are a coach who is fortunate enough to be a part of a large and very supportive coaching staff, have a saint for a partner, and without needy student-athletes. They need to be very self-reliant after freshman year. Period.
It's not for you to decide if this person's personal relationship is balanced with her career. The whole concept of "balance" is skewed what with average work hours that spill over into 7-10pm in the evening and ALL day every Saturday once track starts. Coaches get pulled over to campus or play catch up with work on Sundays and it can quickly fall apart on the home front. Competitions all three seasons is unlike anything else we see in college sports.
Indoor track and field kills balance. The sport needs to be eliminated. Here's a fun experiment: Walk over to a coaches' huddle 45 min. or about half way through the 60 heats of 200m and listen in. There's an honest look at how difficult it is. Dinner time on a Saturday night over Valentine's Day Weekend and they are standing around waiting for another never-ending indoor meet to be over knowing they have to get athletes home in bad weather and everyone is Exhausted with a capital E. Oh, and to top it all off, the meet won't be scored so the AD doesn't even see the point in spending the $3,500 it cost in the first place! No feather in the cap for a "successful" day.
No dog in this fight, but just don't judge coaches and their very challenging circumstances they navigate every day with hundreds of relationships. Everyone's situation is unique and even changes from year-to-year depending on circumstances.
All that said, it still beats digging ditches at the local cemetary or selling shower curtin rings in Wichita. But don't give me this business about "balance" being easy to achieve and role model for the kids you're educating. It's hard to have your cake and eat it too. You don't need to read Malcolm Gladwell's Outliers to know that.

Well said. Been there, done all that, and I couldn't agree with you more.
Sounds like two with lots of experience. I also concur, but coaches and the NCAA have brought this on to themselves, moving away from local and regional meets and going to "pre-nats", "time trials", and "warm weather" qualifying meets where only performances count rather than have some fun competition vs one local team against another one or two teams.
Sure, you may not get the big qualifying mark, but the meets take much less time, the team has a lot more fun and isn't that the point of this sport. XC and track and field is not "big time" for 90% of the programs in the US, but 90% of the coaches all want their time in the limelight (ie. Nationals).
Well, she got another coaching job at UK (so she is still coaching collegiately) and now with the added plus of being closer to her beau. It sounds like she is getting more balance in her life, not less. You must have issues with females in charge to come off like that.

If that rumor is true, it's a great hire. Scott is a professional and a class act. He's been a very solid coach for both developmental and elite throwers at a number of high profile universities.
He's also a very good multis and jumps coach!
