harry enten has talked about this recently...he said there's never been a party that outdid its polling three elections in a row. Every time before, after one or two errors, the polling companies made adjustments and the error went the other way the third time.

Polling is about trends over time, not spot accuracy. A poll loses value if it radically changes its model. Only the media PR polls aren't worried about that.
