Everything east of the Dnieper, and west to Odessa, has always been Russia. The Communists invented Ukraine, one of their many clueless and stupid political errors. They were blinded by an ideology that insisted language, culture, religion didn't matter, workers were all comrades and would happily commonly own whatever they drew a border around.

Reality intruded when the Soviet system fell, and the west immediately started encroaching. There is no way their puppet in Kiev can hold on to the east. Russia would sooner launch a war with NATO than allow that to happen. They won't say so, but it's true. And NATO knows it.

If such a war happens, you'll die if you're of fighting age. Probably get killed by artillery before ever having a chance to use your weapon

Au contraire, today's an awesome day to be an American taxpayer. We're using a tiny fraction of our defense budget to shut down a strategic adversary for years. The stocks of Soviet tanks and AFVs built up over decades are running low. Russia's ability to project power over its own borders has been radically diminished and is going to all but disappear. It just had to withdraw its useless peacekeepers from Nagorno-Karabakh.

And today's a great day to be a Ukrainian soldier because now you'll be able to defend against Russian air strikes and get counterbattery fire going again.

And if you're a comedy fan, today is absolutely fabulous. Russia's Black Sea fleet doesn't dare to enter the Black Sea. In February and March 2022, there was a chance that Russia could have expanded out of Kherson, but now it doesn't hold anything west of the Dnieper. So you're saying Russia is gonna take Odessa now?
