Why do people have to jump to cynical remarks and conspiracy theories? Can't people see that this could just be a (good) sign that finally the IAAF is taking doping as a serious problem and want to sort it out?

Most on here can only see the negatives. This surely shows that the creation of an independent Anti-Doping body and Integrity Unit by the IAAF are actually working. This, together with the stand up to the Russians, despite the IOC rolling over and letting them return, shows that the IAAF is being effective. Props to Coe and co.

"I have been at the forefront of the fight against doping in Kenya - a fight I strongly believe in and support," said Kiprop.

Yes, I I thought I said at one point I'd quit the sport if Kiprop ever tested positive but can't find where I said that. If someone can find it, I"ll pay you $5 for the link. I said that because I enjoyed watching the guy run as he looked different and I want to believe you can be the best in the world and be clean.

My thoughts?

1) Let's wait for a B to come back and everything be confirmed.

2) Assuming #1, I don't know why I or anyone should be surprised. I mean I have thought often, Could it be that the Rosa group with its ties to Italian cycling be dirty at its core? A prominent pro told me a few years ago Kiprop was dirty but I didn't ask for any proof. The same pro once told me he was 110% certain El G was dirty.

3) Despite #2, which would put a ton of big names as suspect, I don't buy the ridiculous argument that I"ve been reading on here if only there were no drugs that suddenly the white dudes in the US would be world beaters. Please. The reason why Frank Shorter didn't lose to Africans often is because Africans had other things they needed to focus on in the 1970s other than running around in a circle for no money.

Really? Coe is the only white middle distance runner that has a cloud of suspicion around him for doping?

That is a dumb comment on so many levels.

1. It is likely there have been many 'white men' who have doped over the years. To suggest just one name, with no accompanying evidence, of being the only white man suspected, is perverse.

2. What is the definition of suspicion? Some jealous rival starting a rumour about someone much better than them 30 years ago?

3. There has never been a shred of evidence to suggest Coe doped. Being infected by a parasite that millions of people over the world have contracted, and one which he had no need to divulge to the press, isn't enough to create a cloud of suspicion.

4. It is a fact that many European countries were carrying out OOC testing long before the IAAF introduced it worldwide in 89. That in itself, and this is the only sentiment of yours I agree with, doesn't mean they were all clean, but it likely increases the chances that fewer took the risk of cheating compared to those (e.g Kenya), who had little or no national testing for decades after, and who had a clearly more corrupt federation warning them of likely visits by the doping squad.

Mohammed Farah did extremely well over the final 700m or 800m of 5000m & 10000m races. We know Farah raced an impressive 1500m that one day (3:28.xx). Getting through the heats in WC and Olympics is accomplished by men whom can win 1500m races passing through 1200m in 3:03 or slower. I don't believe Mohammed Farah ever had the raw 200m/400m speed necessary to get through the heats in big 1500m meets.

Seriously where are the comments from the guys that Kiprop stole a podium spot from? Or a spot in the final from? If I had finished right behind Kiprop in any of those championships and was due to bump up, I would have said something by now knowing I was clean. I would at least be expressing some frustration while we wait & see this process play out. We can't seriously believe that every guy moving up in every race Kiprop was in are all clean and that includes the people moving up onto the podium.

Fancy Bears had Kiprops name on it a while ago. Also on that list are our "heroes" like Rupp, Farah, Jager, Keitany, etc. It's time to see more drug cheats getting caught.

Yawn, a big non-story. I'm not sure why we even bother testing Kenyans. Renato told me that it doesn't have any effect on Africans because some reason or another. So this is more akin to banning a white person for taking a multivitamin.

Does this mean that Nick Willis gets given the gold medal for 2008? Or does Ramzi get given his gold medal back?

We can reasonably surmise that both morcelli and Guerrouj were doped between 91-2004 because the majority of these north africans were subsequently busted and have been shown to be inveterate dopers .

In a 55mph zone, I rarely drive less than 60, close to 65 most of the time and 70 on long trips when I think I can get away with it. Yes, I cheat and I cheat more I when think I can get away with it. I also know that the faster I drive, an accident is the more likely occur and is more likely to be catastrophic. But, I am selfish, I am thinking about what's best for me and I've calculated that I'm unlikely to get caught. (I am being human!)

When there are incentives for fame and fortune...there is a large percentage of humans who will absolutely cheat. That is a fact which has proven through experimentation.

If an athlete comes from an environment with lax testing, athletes, like humans, in general, a large percentage will cheat. Did the Jamaicans for example, start cheating leading up to 2008 Beijing Olympics? Heck yeah, why not, they weren't being tested and they are human.
