No, Rossi was a no-brainer, he cheated. But, it’s more complicated with Killian as nobody doubts that Killian has the ability to summit Everest without oxygen, they are just struggling with the (lack of) evidence. Rossi on the other hand didn’t have the ability to run the marathon in the claimed time and he also had no eveidence to prove he did.
When did the plan to summit twice in one week come about? Had he planned this all along, decided to have another go after he had summited the first time or...?
Kilian probably thinks being capable of summiting Everest is the same as summitting it.
He probably thinks he could have summitted both times if X, Y, and Z were different (felt less sick, less wind, was better acclimated, not as cold outside, etc) and thinks this is the same as summiting.

The second time was ad hoc, not part of the original plan. Which makes it a all a bit more suspect IMO.
Kilian hasn't done anything new. Chad Kellogg is probably the best known at this. Ueli did this on Annapurna probably. Stangl tried to get away with it on K2 but wasn't as smart as Kilian. Stangl provided a "summit photo", shown to be fraudulent, if he didn't provide any photos, he would have gotten away with it.

Chad Kellogg then went to Everest 3 times in 4 years, failed each time. His only watched climbs. All others before Everest were done in secret.
For Everest he started saying he was going solo, no gear/food/water/shelter support, then by the 3rd time 4 years later, he boasted about his light gear (took photos of it, measured teh lbs and ounces), had tons of support at all camps en-route, he boasted about it, all paid for by Outdoor Research in Seattle, WA, had a paid-for Sherpa guide ready at the highcamp to accompany him to the summit and with O2 in case of emergency. And took Dexamethasone (steroid), discussed in this article

While at the lodge in Gorak Shep last year I met Leslie Binns after he sacrificed his summit attempt and saved Sunita Hazra's life. She's the only survivor from the group in the NYT article. Not many people are selfless enough to do what he did. I hope he managed to summit this year.
Any word on the threats and removal of the article? And any evidence yet for the summit?

Sadly, he didn't make it due to horrendous winds. Seems like a cool dude.

Kilian is winning the dispute because he's Kilian.
also, not being Dan Howitt is proving to be extremely helpful.
Killian has his summits on strava. It's obvious the gps readings from his watch were different and not accurate. If he was hiding anything, why would he still have those posted for over 7 months?

Kilian is careless and probably thought no one would look at his GPS two recordings.

The record for the fastest ever ascent of Mount Everest has been broken for the second time in three days.
Lakba Gelu Sherpa made the ascent from Base Camp to the summit in just under 11 hours, shaving nearly two hours off the previous best time.
His 11 hours from Base Camp to the summit is a journey that takes the average climber a good four days of hard climbing.
The previous fastest ascent record was set by a fellow Sherpa, Pemba Dorjie, who reached the top of the mountain in 12 hours and 45 minutes.

This. An interesting note was that Hillary and Norgay both refused to say who stepped on the summit first- sharing the achievement together. Why comment if you don't know what you're talking about? Oh yeah, I forgot where I was at.
