It is designated as a scenic highway. It is not "specifically designated" as a cycling destination (if it were, it would likely have a bike-only thru-way, no?). It is a "designated bike route" (officially according to NPS), which is true for all kinds of byways in USA, and means nothing legally. Pro-bike websites erroneously term it a "bike path" or something, again BS.
The sign said cyclists make use full lane.
That "sign" is not applicable to this situation. It is taken from a different part of the Parkway.
In late August of this year (2014), the pilot project was initiated when the Parkway and the NTPA installed sharrows and “cyclist may use full lane, change lanes to pass†signs in two locations – Tupelo, MS, and Leipers Fork, TN. Signs and sharrows will also be installed near Kosciusko, MS as well. This will allow us to test a strategic approach on a small scale, and if successful, the project will be expanded along the Parkway.
It is an appalling act of misguidance (about what to except from Fraud News) to act as if a sign in another part of the 444 miles is relevant.
Sorry, quotes wrong person. So for you non Nashvillians, this happened 8 miles south of "the bridge". The bridge spans a gap at the Leipers Fork exit. So, in fact, he was in Leipers Fork, a few miles from this sign.
