OMG: What happened in the women's 800? Will they re-run the race?

This ^ is it right here! She also bumped Rogers outside in the semis. Montano has raced this way since college.

Ludlow came out of the turn in Lane 2 and by the time she got to the tape she had moved over into the lane line of Lane 4. That easily cost her a trip to Rio.

re-running the race would be heartbreaking and so unfair to the three runners who qualified and had nothing to do with what happened. What happened to Alysia and Brenda is terrible, but those three runners don't deserve to have their spots taken away because of it. They did nothing wrong and they executed their race plan. We should be proud of this 800 team that we're sending to Rio!

Unfair? Is it fair to most likely win the race but get tackled by hysterical maniac with 150m to go?

Had nothing to do with what happened? They profited from the foul. And at least one does not deserve to be there. Martinez would have certainly been top three.

Not running through the line is one thing, but if you're suggesting that drifting over a few feet over 75 yards is the reason Ludlow didn't take 3rd (because of the extra distance), I suggest you review a theorem I purported a few years ago. Montano is a ****ing idiot. She should get banned for that bush league garbage.

It's a weird thing with Montano, she got robbed of medals by known dopers when she was in her prime, which admittedly makes me feel bad for her. OTOH, every time I've seen her fall in a race it has been absolutely pathetic.. it's like she gets clipped and just gives up and goes down. Always flails her arms on the way down like shes just been shot. At least with Gruenwald you have a tough competitor, Montano seems like she cares more about being a story than actually trying to win. She knew she was toast after going out too hard and she exited in a way that would get her the most attention/sympathy/excuses while taking out the runner who had thrown a little shade her way in the past. Kinda sad.. but T&F really only has room for a couple celebrities in every Olympic cycle.. rather cruel compared to the notoriety of many other way less competitive sports like beach volleyball. I'd probably be a basket case like Montano if I worked so hard my whole young adult life and had very litte to show for it... so /shrug?

But then why have the trials? It gives all our top athletes a chance. Most likely and most certainly don't cut it. Grace Wilson and Williams earned their spots and shouldn't have to prove it again.

If you look closely at the video, it was Rogers, not Montaro, that made contact with Martinez. Moreover, it doesn't appear that Rogers fouled Martinez; they unfortunately made incidental contact, causing Martinez to stumble. Montaro didn't foul Martinez either; she was well behind Brenda when the latter stumbled, and in fact, appeared to be pulled down by Brenda when they got tangled.

It was truly tragic for all concerned, especially for Martinez and Montaro. They both were accelerating when the collisions occurred, and clearly had legitimate shots at finishing in the top three. For that matter, Molly Ludlow was adversely affected as well.

It's a shame what happened, but in all honesty, I don't think ANY of the women were at fault.

Rogers was never touched. Her stride is unchanged. Montano clipped BMart directly from behind. End of debate.
