Ugh. I can't stand another post from the "it's too slow" clowns. Every single race we have to hear it. People, this is the sport. You MUST deal with it. It's not going to change. If you dominate the world for four years with sit-and-kick tactics, then it's a damn good way to run. And if people thought they could beat him from the front, they'd be trying it. They don't, and they are probably right.
Overall it was kinda a boring meet to be honest.
Field events were great, womens high jump, triple jump an Mens Jav
Running events were very ehhhh
Kinda exciting womens 15,
really boring 5k
boring 3k steeple
800 was interesting but not even close to the time wanted, it seemed like almost everyone was off their A game except Amos and he seemed to get kinda hurt.

Perhaps. Rudisha looked mighty disappointed after losing that race, and I wager he will be highly motivated in training to come back at Beijing and show everyone he is still the best. Got to hand it to Amos, though, he worked really hard coming down that home stretch.

I think Centro fairly jogged the final 200. I think he knew he was going poorly at 400, and by 500 Rudisha and Amos were gone. I figure he just pulled back rather than risk potential injury. It was just a bad day for him -- maybe the travel or something as others have mentioned.

True, but you aren't going to beat him over the last 400, so make it a battle of wills for over 1600. And in the 10000, Rupp's shown the ability to hammer for an entire race. It's an interesting dynamic for Salazer...but Rupp should know Farah's weaknesses better than anybody.
When he's in shape Farah takes it from 1000m out. He can close in the low 2:20s and usually only one or two other people in the race can come close to that. That kind of threshold endurance plus the 25 second 200 closing speed makes him almost impossible to beat when he's dictating the pace.
Someone would have to hammer from 2-3k out, at least. Make the race a time trial and see how the chips fall. The best bet is still likely making the entire race a time trial, but several people would have to work together and that hasn't come close to happening these days.

You are completely wrong. This is NOT the sport. Plenty of people in the other events run fast. Plenty of people in Farah's events used to run fast. It's only Farah that leaves it to a sit and kick everytime. No one said it wasn't a good way to run. We are saying that it's a boring and weak way to run.
Races should not be run slower than the world record for twice the distance.

Fitness wins races not tactics.
I agree with this. The only thing tactics are going to do is LOSE a race for you.

Diamond League is about fast performances and time trials. These athletes go there specifically to run fast, and we watch them to see them go fast. When they don't, they are wasting everyone's time, including their own.
If you don't like reading about that, you should avoid watching DL or clicking on DL threads. There's some great champs meets for you going on right now, the Universiad and the Euro under-23 champs. Plenty of tactics, heats, medals, the whole 9 snail-paced yards.

The people watching the races are the only xenophobic ones. Rojo said that being American helped Centro get in, which is true, because meet directors will favor popular athletes over slightly faster runners with less name recognition every time. That's not xenophobia, that's common sense, on the part of both the meet organizers for understanding that and Rojo's part for understanding what motivates the meet directors.

No single man can challenge Mo Farah. It will take the Ethiopian or Kenyan team to send a man out with 4 laps to go, and then sit on Mo. Either Force Farah to chase, or he looses out to the journeyman. But that is too much coordination, and won't happen.
If Ndiku is healthy and fit, he can singlehandedly take down Farah. Mo would have gotten lit up hard at the Commonwealth games last year, and he knew it - that's why he didn't race. Can't wait for WC final.

Rojo is correct. The token American has been a fixture in European track meets to accommodate American television for eons. Especially noticeable in the 1990's. With the rise in American quality the tokenism is less noticeable.
I think you guys really aren't giving Farah enough credit. I truly think that Farah is just a lot faster than people think. I'm not sure what he can run all out, but when you have guys that have run sub 12:50 afraid to push the pace against Farah you have to think they know something we don't and that he at least has the potential to run that fast and still win

I wasn't being xenophobic.
I was stating the reasons why Centro would be in the field. Him beign American is a factor for a meet director whether you like it or not.
Do you relalize like for IAAF road races to get a certain level of certification (gold, silver, etc), you must have so many people from a certain region.
As the only person from North or South American from the field, it's a relevant fact. You may not like the fact that place of birth matters to meet directors but it does just as you may not like how race impacts college decisions but it does.
I find it ironic you used the word xenophobic as it's a term normally used by liberals. So the same logic applies to affirmative action in admissions and I'm sure you love that. I point it out here and you get mad?
