The distinction I've always made with American politics and its fringe whackos, are that the crazies on the left wear birkenstocks, tin foil hats, and like to protest and parade around a lot about perceived injustices. Crazies on the right arm themselves, stockpile ammunition, and carry an unreasonable amount of paranoia for anyone that doesn't look or act like themselves. One is crazy the other is dangerous.

as someone who lives in tucson, let me tell you that youre absolutely wrong... gun culture in tucson, much less arizona and the united states, is no myth. people here are crazy about their guns. a few months ago i went to a denny's at 10pm on a tuesday night and a man sitting at the counter had a gun strapped to his waste--which is more than he now needs to do legally, because you no longer need a permit for a concealed weapon in arizona.

That American politics has seen an increase of, quote - ‘hate and vitriol’ of late, was totally predictable.

As soon as Obama was elected, I forecast, simply on my experience of African leadership - that American politics would become more polarised than it’s been since the Vietnam period.

Lacking real leadership, the majority of Americans are facing a future worse than that experienced by their grandparents back in the 30’s and this particular incident will be long forgotten.
