Best retaliation to getting yelled at while running

This thread makes me glad that I'm more of a mid-distance runner, with more of a defensive back build than a runner's. It tends to keep the overt violence to a minimum. I've only once had something thrown at me on a run and that was by kids I know who just didn't stop to think that a 50 mph snowball would sting like a bitch.

Typically for the people who yell at me from cars I just pull up one side of my running shorts to show them my junk, but I usually check first to make sure there are no grandmothers or small children about. For people that pull in front of me making a right-hand turn slapping the back of their cars is typically enough, sometimes I'll pretend its a steeple water jump and jump onto their trunk and run across it.

Once two of my teammates almost got into a fight with a driver who did that, he stopped, opened his door but never left the car farther than standing with one foot in, one foot out. Probably the closest my team has ever come to a fight.

One time two kids in separate cars from a rival high school were following us yelling at us so we turned onto this narrow residential street and once they were both on the street we sprinted at the first one, he threw it in reverse and hit the second one. It was just a dent because the second car was moving backwards as well, minimizing the impact, but still funny as hell for us.

I had a friend who is a biker. A guy in a truck yelled at him to get off the road. My friend caught up to the guy at a stop light, leaned in the window, pulled the keys out and threw them as far as he could and rode off. Best retaliation I've ever heard of. I kind of want to try it during a run.

That's a good one.....then the fat ass mo foes sure couldn't catch you on foot.

I once read about this guy that was doing a 20 miler in the snow and ice. He was on mile 19 and tired and this car comes skidding by on the ice and almost ran over him. He yelled watch where your going man....and this big bodybuilder type gets out of the car and beat the hell out of him so he told the board I was on. He was tired....always have reserve no matter how hard you train. And at that point I would have tried to have run lol....

A few weeks ago, a kid jumped in my face and yelled at me, trying to spook me. I knew that he was up to something though, because I saw the glint in his eye. Instead of jumping, I just turned into him, expressionless, and stared at his face. He backpedaled so hard that he fell on his ass. I didn't touch him, break stride, or change my expression at all.

I hadn't planned it; it was more of an instinctive response. It worked so well that I turned the run into a tempo.

This one is not a retaliation by any means; just an amusing story:

My housemate and I are on a run, and we approach some elementary school kids, about 5 (3 guys 2 girls). They hear us coming and turn around, I instinctively expect them to make a smart-ass comment because alot of young kids in the area have done that. Much to my surprise, they give us space to go through and say hello, and we reply in kind.

Not 5 seconds later a car drives by and yells "hey guys!" at the kids. They all took off running after the car, yelling for the car to stop. At this point they are running about 10 strides in front of us, screaming. I could imagine the look on a passerby's face, seeing what looks like 2 older college kids chase after some screaming elementary school girls.

Car: "Run Forrest.... RUN!!!

Me: "Yell Stupid... YELL!!!

So sat. I was at a track meet, and as I was warming up this piece of crap car, practically almost hit me. It was a blind spot and here he came zooming up, while I place my hands on the car trying to slow his ass down. Anyway out of my maturity I decided to do or say anything, and went on my lovely way. NOW what really pissed me off and pushed me over the edge was when about a quater of a mile later here he came flying by slamming on his horn, in retalitation. Now for a second I was like what the hell, and that really bothered me. I was like "dude you just almost hit me! and your gonna honk at me!" soo to my surprice about a minute later there he was sitting at a stop light, and oh did my eyes glaze over, and my adrenaline rose to an all time high. I ran/ sprinted to his car slammed my foot into the side of the car and was like what "the #$%@ us your problem" My foot was literally engraved in his car! I told him to get his ass out of the car! but at that point the light turned green and he zoomed off. Overall I felt great, I totally scared the living shit out of him, and I messed up his crappy car!

And oh yeah once I got back to the track after my warm up I ran a PR in the mile (4:28) which kicked ass. Maybe it was all that adrenanline from my confrontation...who knows

i was in High school while on a run with my team, not 1, not 2, not even 3, but 4 middle school kids were standing in a group and yelling at us. I was about 40 meters passed them wen i just came to a complete stop. i turned around and looked at them as my whole team also stopped to see wat I was going to do. they were all dressed in fluffy jackets and there was piles of snow everywhere. i sprinted at them full speed, and tackled all 4 of them into the snow!

the crossing guard watched the whole thing and wen I passed her she smacked me over the head with her STOP sign. that hurt, but man was that worth it.

I was running on a path that goes through the local park. It is a mile around.

I ran by a guy walking with a girl on the path, they were walking the same way i was running.. and as I went by he said "he fag, I see your training for the special olympics."

I didnt say anything but I picked up the pace a little and a 1 1/2 miles later they were still walking and i came up behind him quiet and I pants'd him and he tripped.

Needless to say i didnt run back around another time.

I just wanted to point out an absolutely great way to deal with hecklers in cars.

Run them down at a stoplight, whip out your keys, go to town on their paintjob.

If you're lucky and they are 'lucky' enough to own an expensive car you can do ~$500 in damage in seconds.

Once on an aerobic team run, we were running as a pack, about 15 of us, and we we're on a local road when a car full of students from a rival school drove by us and honked. We started yelling, asking them if they wanted a fight. There were four of them, 3 blonde guys and a blonde girl who was driving. They turned the car around and came at us. A couple of our faster guys sprinted up ahead, turned to run with the car and started opening their doors and slamming their windows in. That scared 'em pretty good. Later down the road they were harassing our JV so one of the freshies grabbed a rock and through it above the car. At the same time one of the blonde fags stuck his head out of the sunroof and hit him square in the eye.

My advice would be just f*** em up and then if questioned say it was in self defense.

Also, I'll add to the collection as well. The only thing I've ever done was to smack the hood of a car in front of me that wasn't looking as the stupid lady pulled out of the parking lot. I think she may have peed herself.

I called someone a f*g after they called me a f*g, the got out of their car and beat me up. Need 47 stiches to repair my face.

the other day some little punks yelled "faaag!" without missing a beat i yelled back f*** off. pretty cool
