Thank you. Missing those questions was an unintended oversight on my part.
2. I did consider other people. That's what I'm explaining to you. When we consider other people Jane has raced before, we can see they finished closer to Jane today than in their prior races.
4. Jane's extreme margin of victory at Regionals suggests she ran harder than others.
Ok, but that didn't even come close to addressing my questions. Like, you didn't even try. You just repeated what you already said and ignored what I said. I know you are trolling, so we'll done - you win.
It appears no amount of logic or data will suffice for you. I've spent many hours trying to reason with you, but it was to no avail because you are being unreasonable on this topic. Likely because too much emotion is getting in your way.
I would just like to correct your misassumption of me. I'm not trolling, and I didn't come here to win - I came here to warn.
After Regionals, I saw so many people here getting overly excited about Jane's win like little children on Christmas Eve. People were saying her becoming national champion was a mere formality. The only question was her margin of victory. I saw those misguided proclamations, and all I could think was, "Oh dear, these poor souls are going to be crushed next weekend if I don't warn them." And so I did.
put differently. let's say she backs off last week and runs 18:38 then runs 18:29 at nationals.
so what, she still loses by 4 seconds.
We can only say that with the advantage of hindsight. Before Regionals, it was sensible to think Jane could beat Doris at Nattys IF Jane could conserve energy in Utah and then have an outstanding day in Missouri. There was some mystery about Doris because she has been competing almost nonstop since last fall. Would she be a little tired after racing at the World Champs in Japan? Maybe!
An A+ day from Jane might have beaten an A- day from Doris. It turned out Doris had the A+ day and Jane had the A or A- day.

So true. I admit I rode the LRC wave after the regionals and predicted a 30 second win of Jane over the field. What can I say? Maybe LetsRun is built for fanboys and trolls, so I have to be careful next time?
first off, you're dealing with a recent HS grad who dropped a ton of time off what her 5k projects to 6k to be competitive here. to then be like "back off in regionals" is a little silly.
second, i think it's a particularly american obsession. like someone else is saying, particularly off her first college year, and not seeing the chase pack, she doesn't know she could have backed off at the end. nor is she sure if she just pack runs with the people behind her that benefits her skill set at the end and gets her through. that's a veteran move. and not without risks.
one year we're in this big international select soccer tournament playing a team from chicago in the quarters. our coach has the bright idea we're gonna rotate in some subs, save people for semis. i was one of the starters rested. my replacement gives up 2 goals. i get in with 30 minutes left but we're down 2-0 to a pretty good team.
one could parse that as start hard and maybe ease up, as opposed to drive the whole thing with the parking brake on. they could have started the regulars then subbed us with 30 left. but either way, there are risks. but we're done for the tournament at that point.
last, i still think she loses to lemengole. her fastest simply doesn't keep up. she could have had a bye and maybe still lost. lemengole is that good.
