Maybe you know the answer to this question: for teams that qualify for the Championship, is there a minimum number of competitions that an athlete on the roster has to have competed in in order to be eligible to compete in the Championship race?
I may be wrong but I believe that an individual on a team that qualifies can run in the championship meet as the only meet of the season. Last year Amy Bunnage of Stanford only ran in the West regional prior to the championship.
Correct. A coach needs to submit a list of ten runners for the regional and national. If a runner still has eligibility left, she can run either or both races if she is on the list. If she doesn’t have eligibility, the coach needs to raise their voice to Taylor’s level so a waiver can be granted.

There is only one list of ten runners submitted to cover both meets? And that list can include runners that haven’t prior competed in a meet? And they don’t need to compete in the Regional in order to compete in the Championship?
So theoretically, if a runner is submitted on that list, they can run in the Championship even though they didn’t compete in a prior meet, including the Regional meet?
What is to prevent a team from hiding a ringer, then?

Is it possible Parker Valby, possessing at least one more season of cross country eligibility, could have enrolled in a graduate course this semester, and be brought back for the Championship as a trump card?

In theory both Valby and Tuohy can be back. I think the rule is to allow an athlete to compete as a last minute entry after they are fully recovered from injuries.

Think of the buzz and media exposure and attention this would bring! The only thing that would make it more exciting…is if Katelyn Tuohy also has one season of eligibility left…which she might due to the COVID year rule…?

So then NC State gets word on what’s going down with Florida, and they pull out their Tuohy trump card for the big cross country rematch!

If there is any pushback cries of foul, the response will be this stunt is to help these ladies get prepared for the USA World Cross team.😁

And then, Jane Hedengren and Doris Lemngole and Pamela Kosgei are running for the individual honors, Florida and NC State are battling it out behind, Rocky and Drago, Tuohy and Valby, are at the front of the pack too contesting 1st place in this historic race!

No matter fair or not, I believe that would create a sellout performance. Florida led by Valby, NC State led by Tuohy and Hartman, BYU led by Hedengren, versus three all African teams in Oregon, Alabama, and New Mexico.

I think I would definitely make the effort to be there.

They do hide ringers.
Touhy made her freshman debut at ncaa meet. I also think Bush and Tyynismaa debuted at nats in the year they were both injured. I'm sure there are others.
It's not really hiding someone. It's usually just a proven athlete returning from injury. Coach knows from practice, if it's worth the risk to use them.
Plenty of fit runners also don't run all 3 of conference, regional, nats.

I thought once an athlete went pro they couldn’t ever compete in NCAA again?

The old adage used to be, when one accepts money to run, they are a pro. So NIL borderlines on turning collegiate athletes into pros.
But it’s more obvious than that. The NCAA put into their bylaws that collegiate athletes could accept money from the Diamond League. So why was preferential treatment in a special bylaw given to the Diamond League, a commercial entity?
So it seems, if necessary, they just need to add more special bylaws for the Valby and Tuohy type pros that want to come back and finish out their eligibility. 😁

That’s why Scholarbook athlete, Doris Lemngole, a ‘pro’ that had accepted money from the Diamond League, was allowed to run in the NCAA.

Change the word “why” to “how”, particularly to counter those readers defending the Scholarbook-athlete-mill that are jumping up and down about now shouting “that bylaw was not put in place specifically for Lemngole!”

I think the true sense of bringing in a ‘ringer’ (or two or three) is through the rise of these foreign-athlete recruitment mills, particularly those for athletics that target Kenya, a country that is naturally great for developing cross country athletes since (1) they are at altitude, (2) there is not much else going on industry wise, relatively speaking, so that the whole country gets behind the idea of making running their prime industry.
So now with the large flux of imported foreigners that can make an immediate impact, maybe their does exist the opportunity to hide a difference-making unheard of freshman right up until 10 days(?) prior to the Natty’s big dance.

I suspect that Hartman will run in the ACCs to defend her title & skip the regional meet. NC State can qualify to the championship without her. Henes could also rest Gapes at regional if she chooses to but may not want to risk it. NC State is comfortably the best team in the SE region over UVa. After that is South Carolina, Clemson, and Wake. Gapes could use the break and if she doesn't sit out the regional meet she'll sit out the ACC meet.

I went back to fact-check this; Tuohy had already started running track that semester when the NCAA meet was in the spring due to COVID messing up the normal schedule.
Likewise, looking through TFRRS, for Bush, I don’t see where her first meet of any season was Natty’s. Similarly, likewise for Chmiel, or Tyynismaa.

Henes will be better able to read their tea leaves, but maybe she tells Gapes, Putman, Rauber, Napoleon's, etc., to run at just 80% effort for Regionals.
