Looks like Wightman got into the back-kick of Mills just slightly and that caused a chain reaction -- hard to see who was at fault with the poor angle. Unfortunate, I thought that whole pack was at 3:30 or below pace
It's crazy seeing Mills always being involved in these. Haven't seen a replay of the fall yet, so not sure whose fault this one is, but he either has the worst look or consistently terrible position/form. Looked to me like he tried fighting off the pacer during the break, so an excess of scrappiness could be the root.
Mills basically came to a standstill from what I could tell, and wasn’t letting Myers et al by him. Fall was inevitable.
Koech - say whatever you want about him. That he is doping, or an age cheat, or whatever else, but there is no denying that he is an insane, incredibly raw talent. it's hard to describe but you can just see it in his stride. Its unrefined. Powerful, but not smooth in the same way as the guys around him. Screams potential.
He is a true player. Making ballsy moves from the inside and all... Shows that he wasn't running near his limit at that point.
The only question mark is whether he can maintain this form for two months - with this run he cemented his place among the favorites
I'm surprised the London crowd didn't boo Wanyouni and Koech when they were being introduced.
It's time for the public to start making their feelings known about Kenyan doping. And the athletes too. Refuse to shake hands, or better still refuse to race against them.
Why should you boo because some marathoners doped. It's an individual sport and everybody is responsible for their own actions
Like I said in a thread a few days ago, Josh Kerr was easily in 3:29.xx shape based on that workout. I think the race though was ruined because literally everyone else was impeded by the Mills fall.
Then you disagreed with Kerr who considered himself to be in PB shape.
He was 1.5 sec slower than his PB despite perfect pacing all the way through.
He might have been beaten by Myers and Nader had these two not been obstructed when Mills felt.

That was a totally gutless race from Kerr. What’s the point of talking a big game and requesting a fast pace if you’re just going to sit on Mills and let the lights go? The guy is a world champ and multiple Olympic medalist, but he looks like a fish out of water in a fast race without his Norwegian rabbit.
If Myers hadn’t fallen I think he would’ve finished 2nd. Koech is going to be in trouble if he runs out of tea money.
Tribalist. The world is past that! Look at yourself! Hating someone because of other people's shortcomings is one of the most stupidest action from someone like you!!!

He’s a good runner that lucked out in a World Champs and is now trying to make as much money as possible in the very short time he has something resembling name recognition.
Hence all the absurdly pompous instagram videos and product placements.

Okay elephant in the room is no Jakob in this race.
Where Jakob breaks his opponents, and can get the upper hand, is cranking the pace incrementally from 600-700m out. Certainly in a race with pacers and wavelights. I think a fit Jakob would have beaten Kerr today in this manner. And I say this because we kind of know Kerr's limits, which we saw today, and we know Jakob is better at this type of DL racing.and is a human metronome.
Koech is a different matter because we don't know his limits yet, and we definitely didn't see him hit his limits today. He could possibly could hang with Jakob through the gears. I would like to think Jakob could take care of him, but yeah, that doubt is starting to creep in.

All very well saying Myers would have finished 2nd, but he isn't putting himself in a position to do that. He put himself in a position to run up the back of Mills.
He has got his tactics and positioning wrong in a few races this year.

It doesn’t matter this year. If he really is 18 this year then he is easily running 3:25 in a few years.
Koech's last 50m looked like Usain Bolt's Beijing 2008 finish, except instead of running 100m, he was finishing a fast 1500m.
I don't recall seeing any 1500m athlete running 3:28 and celebrating like that before the finish line.
He ran a 13.4 last 100, the race was more about Kerr not having an extra gear to me, though of course Koech was impressive. For reference Laros/Reynolds last 100 at Pre was 12.6 I believe. I am now curious the dealings of Athletics Kenya/2 Running Club if they’ll make Koech run the Trials or give him a spot because of his 3 straight strong runs.

Koech looks to me like this generations Noah Ngeny. I don’t know if 3:25 is coming because that remains a huge jump, but I think he will become a 3:26 guy. Very nice stride, smooth navigator in the race and a powerful finish.

Koech couldn't beat Habz in Paris. He's not beating Jakob.
