The lead off runner came to a complete half in the final 50 meters. That was ridiculous and set back the remainder of the relay. They were always forced to swing wide and make the handoff in heavy traffic in an outer lane.
As a USC alum I agree it was a choke. South Florida bailed us out by rallying to win the relay. Otherwise it would have been a famous choke.
I don't mind a tie with Texas A&M. Tying with Arkansas would have really ticked me off, after attending NCAA indoors and having to endure their hour long whiny protest after the 4 x 400, begging for a rerun.
I'm not surprised at all that Arkansas found another elbow graze to complain about. There should be 8 lanes for everybody else and allow Arkansas to run in its own private wind tunnel.
They don't really analyze the race. The just read off biographical info. It's wild to me.
It really is. And the semis are even wilder. Literally just a feed.
Also, as an earlier poster alluded to, it would be nice to have a lot more analysis and live info on the team title + projected scores at the moment + which team(s) materially improved or lengthened their odds after each event.
Wake the f*ck up! Why would there be ‘professional track announcers’? grand slam track just died on the vine. There is no market. And, no, rojo your ‘skills’ are not needed despite your announcing the heps. There was a reason you were fired from that…
Man what happened to Kidali. Imagine telling someone that a 1:42 guy that went to the NCAA would finish DFL
I almost never make doping comments but Kidali seems to invite speculation. I am going off of vague memory but I think this is the situation.
Runs so-so first part of 2024, runs fabulous at his Trials and makes the team. Complete bomb in Paris. Can't beat top ten collegiate 800 guys. Correct me if I have this wrong.
Doping to make the team which he gets away with. Then other venues have enough Doping Control threat that he stays away because his career goes Poof is caught so be gets college money including NIL and never comes close to 1:42 but doesn't get popped.
Bucky needs to be replaced. Hogs choke every year.
But, man, can he file a protest
He 100% should file those protests. And he should have won the protest last night. And they should have been allowed to rerun the 4x4 indoors. They were wronged by other teams in both relays.
The first leg was not coached right and didn't think it through. They knew that they were short a runner. They also knew the differences in scores. They should have run every leg conservatively because not going out hard enough loses you a little while going too hard costs you a lot. The objective should be to win the Championship not the race.
Before the race I calculated the point differentials and so I was pretty sure it was a tie but couldn't remember for sure if Arkansas was also tied, I thought that they were short.
