New balance is encouraging runners to defer
New Balance have said they won’t be providing hospitality etc for influencers/runners they gifted bibs to and have told them all to defer until 2025.. not looking good!!
That is literally the opposite of what Liz says in her video…NB will still provide those things if the event goes ahead and if their guests choose to participate.
But their hospitality is off, by the sounds of it?
Yeah they have to decided not to run their activations (not sure what those entail) but they remain the title sponsor of the event, if it goes ahead. Bit confusing!
I'm slightly leaning towards thinking that this race might actually go ahead, based on that. Hopefully we'll know tomorrow.

Overview for those who can't be arsed to watch:
- New Balance expect confirmation by the end of the week on whether the event will proceed as scheduled
- New Balance will support the athletes they’ve gifted bibs to (“guests”) should the event go ahead, but encourage guests to consider deferring to 2025 or 2026
- New Balance is cancelling their hospitality and activation programming for this year
I take it that deferring is only an option for people to whom New Balance gifted a bib. The rest of us don't have the option to defer, at least not yet, right?
This article, from today, makes out as if it's likely going ahead (but has the huge caveat of its not official).
I do think it will go ahead if you just want my guess.
Actually, nobody wants guesses, we want answers. This forum has had plenty of guesses by now.
If NB, a sponsor, is telling their athletes to not go, and they are pulling out from any VIP events, NB doesn't want any negative sentiment to tarnish their brand around this marathon. Clearly they don't think it should happen.
Until Valencia release an official statement, that's all this thread will be. If you don't like that, then don't read a forum about it, and just wait for official confirmation.
The whole of lets run message board is conjecture, opinions and guessing. You're in the wrong place if you don't like it!

The Turin Marathon is not included as a qualifying race for the Majors Age-group Championships, but Turin is officially measured and is likely also a Boston qualifier. Many marathons, like Athens, Dubai, Florence, etc., are not part of the Majors Age-group system. They probably just haven’t been interested in certification, since few people care about the Majors Age-group Championship (just a money grab by WMM!).
