So you suggest an asterisk to Gebrhiwet’s 12.36 because Kejelcha “paced” him far further than Jakob was by the pacers..? And an asterisk to Cole/Kerr/Nuguse’s 3.27’s? -Will be a lot of asterisks eventually, doesn’t it…?

Worth noting that as they mention they have low expectations for Komen as he ran 13:02 in Berlin two days before. Winning but slowing towards the end. They read into that he’s tired, but in retrospect it seems he was actually saving up to chase the WR. Obviously not communicated to the commentators as things typically are nowadays.
Post-championship races are "dumb" to you, yet they produce many WRs. Do you even follow track?
Sport is not about "producing many WRs", it's about competition! I've been a devout fan of T&F since 1993.
All I said was that the races held after the Olympics are anti-climactic, which is when Jakob tends to do his best.
1. Most of the world's best are actively competing post-championships, aren't they? Multiple gold medalists and countless medalists at every post-Paris DL.
2. Some of them seem to be competing very well, in fact setting world records: two in the last DL meet.
3. If you find this "anti-climatic," then it just sounds like you don't really understand the sport. It isn't winner-take-all like the NFL, no matter how much ignorant fans might want it to be.

Cram and Hutchings were just ignorant to Komen's ability, so they blew the call. Classic old men laughing at the Kenyan starting "too fast." We've seen plenty of that.
They clearly didn't think Komen could break Morceli's standing WR 7:25 starting that way, let alone run 7:20.

Cram and Hutchings certainly weren't ignorant of Komens ability, in fact the recited all of Komens exploits leading up the WR. As I said, NO ONE, before or since had run a 3000m the way Komen did that day. Thats what made that WR so special. Komen in full flight was a sight to see.

Of course Komen by definition ran his 5-second WR faster than anyone had seen before, for someone with 7:20 ability it was actually extremely normal pacing. Fast first lap then near dead-even.
But they thought he was pacing it "poorly" or "stupidly", because they simply didn't understand he had 7:20 ability. If they had known that, the pacing would have appeared "normal" to them.
For example, because everyone (including Hutchings) already believed that Jakob had 7:20 fitness on Sunday, nobody had an embarrassing freakout when he opened at the basically the exact same pace (Komen's first 1k split, plus ~1s).
Some need a break - every time i see mcsweyn out there i just want him to call it a season and get right.
I'm saying if he's not changing his training , speed in particular, and his pitter patter style , he should call his career...unless he can make money off pacing. Even then, he is slowest off mark and has to race around pack to get ahead.
