Anytime you have change in leadership of any kind, numbers tend to drop before trending upwards again. People have to “buy into” the program. Case in point, look how Valor’s program grew after Cole Sprout. People follow success. A few yrs of big wins and more kids will want to be part of something great. Building a program like that takes time, especially as mentioned before, in a less affluent area.
Do you think is Dalby from Vista or Christensen from Niwot quit that their program would fold? Asking to understand. Or do you think they have built a program that can withstand their loss? I think Valor had turmoil caused by athletes, that caused a beloved coach to quit and the program to fold.
Thoughts????
Depends on whether they are replaced with good coaches or not
Wow, Cheyenne Mountain #1 in 4A over Coronado. These rankings are from Sep 27 though (before the big meets of the weekend have started)
IKR. Ater Portland, it looks neck and neck for CMHS versus CHS, though I see CHMS top 2 edging out CHS, for State, but NXR/NXN looks to be a different result with the CHS transfer able to run.

I'd guess that ranking may have come either from the times CMHS ran at that "5k" in Grand Junction. Or maybe its more speculation than from results to date. CMHS has performed well down the stretch in recent years, whereas CHS seems snakebit to battle sickness and hasn't had the state performance they've been capable of.
tbh I'm having a hard time believe it's neck and neck. CHS track times are much faster than CMHS. CMHS needs their 3 through 5 to compete with Davidson, who has run sub-4:20 for the mile. That's a decent stretch for a bunch of guys that have never even run under 4:30.
Agreed that Stanczek - hes run sub-10 and 4:25 - will be a huge boost for CHS when he gets to run Varsity.
Thompson Valley is good but probably as far away from CMHS as CMHS is from CHS.
The "5k" at Grand Junction was indeed a 5k. All the stravas from the race were pretty close if not exactly 3.11 miles. But I agree, I believe that right now Coronado is ahead of CM but we will see what happens come November 2nd as CM does tend to improve by the state meet just depends on if it is enough...
Social media and high school sports are a hot topic. How much should coaches be involved in posting about their sport and athletes on social media? In XC/track it seems like milesplit does plenty on rankings and comparisons. Are kids running just so they can make their school’s or coach’s insta post? How healthy is this and how are the best and worst coaches handling this type of pressure in CO.
I'm am not sure I do not think any, just part of the point I was saying that recruiting in highschool is not turning a program around.
I am also Not saying kids/parents cannot do that. If that is what they think is best then that is fine and obviously it is working out very well and the kids are becoming very successful and fast. It was just a point to what I was saying.
Do you have first hand knowledge of her discouraging kids from coming out? Because that would not be consistent with what I know of Rainsberger. Her club teams have kids of all levels. My guess is there just aren’t that many kids interested in coming out or are intimidated by the workload. AA has a pretty large program, but most others are fairly small. How many of the twenty or so high schools with 1,000 students or so in and around Colorado Springs field a JV team? What was Coronado like on the boy’s side pre-Rainsberger?
I guess, if Coronado makes nationals, maybe that will get more new runners interested to join the team in the future
