Announcers really just said there have been WORLD LEADS set at these prelims? Sure, there's some nice running here, but there's a huge difference between crushing soft facility records and running world-leading times. The complete ignorance...
So so so bad. The male commentator thinks an team is going to break a facility record halfway down the homestretch, goes on to miss the record by 2 seconds.
He also pronounced Athing Mu as Athing MOO. Painfully obvious he doesn't know this sport. Fail on an embarrassing level.
You might be losing perspective. Valby won her semi in the 5K. Then won the 10k. Both she and Olemomoi go on to nationals. Where is the downside? This is like a heat in the Olympics.
I was very impressed with NC State’s Napoleon’s performance in the steeple today. Her PR is the kind of time some of us knew she was capable of running. 4th overall in the East, nice!
Agreed. Until the last 400, I really thought Napoleon might be on the brink of coming apart. Markezich and Novak were away nearly from the gun. Napoleon, Cherotich and Saurer followed, three vying for one automatic qualifying spot. Cherotich couldn’t maintain early separation and Napoleon showed poise, steadily increasing pace and finding something extra in the final lap. Watching from trackside, it became clear that Napoleon, still a touch on the gangly and awkward side, has tremendous upside once her form, endurance and turnover improves. Full credit to Henes for guiding this still raw and developing athlete to Nats in her debut season.
Bush delivered a similar gutsy performance. I don’t know what the TV coverage captured, but the drama in heat 2 was a scrap btwn Bush, Thomas and Anderson for two remaining big Q spots. Like Napoleon, Bush’s grit and class emerged to finally gap the two challengers late in the race.
I noticed that Henes didn’t appear particularly stoked during the 10k--understandably, as it must have been a bittersweet evening for her--and looked much the same after the 5k heats. I was standing nearby when someone said to her “Great job with Napoleon.” Henes beamed bright and replied “Thanks! She’s a lot of fun!"
this is a great question. jackson shorten had an incredible race in the steeple, PRing by 10 seconds and almost winning his heat, and nick bendtsen once again proved he is one of the best 5k guys in the country. id love to know how vig got them ready for these races.
Just wondering after seeing Friday's results: Did the Princeton distance men actually train for the East Regionals ??

Agree commentators were very bad. During one of the 5k heats Blanks made his move and they were saying who is this guy? he certainly wasn’t one anyone’s radar. I guess they didn’t know who won NCAA XC a few months ago and then broke the NCAA 5k record. It was bad.
