anyone know where to see the pics?
Emma Gee posted them on her Instagram, and David Monti has posted them on twitter:
What’s going on with some brands continuing to work with New Gen on things? Promoting photos like this in their latest camp? I know art is however someone wants to creatively express their ideas but this feels disrespectful towards women. pic.twitter.com/aD7EzMLCHU

Ryder deleted the photos off his instagram. I had linked them around pages 4 and 5 but they are gone now. I think Emma Gee's post, which is linked on page 8 I think has some snippets of the photos.
I have found this brand irresponsible for awhile. When they first came out with a clothing line they used what looked like underage girls to model their crop tops and bun huggers. Then there was that after party at nxn that looked like a college rager where I suspected underage drinking. their photoshoots with the pro runners tend to be goofy & I don’t always get it but the pros at least seem in control of how they’re depicted. if the girls involved are still reading this thread, I’d be curious what their parents have to say about the photos. And to the young man involved, I doubt his parents are happy with him being photographed pushing a tiny girl into a locker and having that haunt him on the internet for years to come
Hey y’all. I was a female camper at new gen camp 2023 and here’s the reality. Believe me or don’t but I have nothing to hide. Ryder Lee is an amazing photographer and the theme was a y2k style bulling shoot. We were all in the media room and just sat and thought “hey wouldn’t this be funny. ” and started bouncing ideas around. it was especially hilarious to us because Jackson and Hattie are some of the kindest people ever. It’s wasn’t deep at all. it wasn’t even an actual toilet. There was a fishtank with a newly bought toilet seat set up. Ryder himself even tried it out. We all just giggled at those photos.
nothing was about attention, it was about which photographer wanted who for the photoshoots and who had time. Ryder, along with other media kids, would spend HOURS and would even stay up till 4 am or later to try to get all of their work done. By then end of camp everyone was exhausted because we poured our hearts into everything we did at camp.
as for what we learned. It was about NIL deals, reaching out to potential clients and companies, how to market ourselves and our content, creating connections in running media, storytelling, intentions, etc.etc. The counselors were always available to us and helped us as much as they could with the week we had. Although to be honest, I learned the most from the campers around me. They all have a vision, either in running or in media, and truly are chasing their dreams constantly.
I can say on my life that Ryder, nor anyone at our camp, would say the homophobic comments that were made. Kids can be trolls. I understand how the situation can be seen as problematic and the homophobic comments are inexcusable however that truly doesn’t and shouldn’t reflect on New Gen let alone the campers involved at all. If a Taylor Swift fan is racist, that doesn’t mean Taylor Swift and her entire fan base is racist. You don’t get mad at 2000s movies for putting a girl in an actual swirly, and I bet most of you still enjoy watching mean girls.
the goal of the photoshoot wasn’t to spark conversation or to send an underlying message. It was literally just fun for all. If you don’t like it then scroll or sure go ahead leave a comment calling it disappointing. Making a whole scene out of it and constantly replying back to a bunch of teenagers just to spark a fight seems more immature to me. She could’ve hit up Ben and been like “yo get your kids right” or sent Matt a “hey this photoshoot didn’t sit right with me and here’s why.” She didn’t do that. She immediately went for Ryder Lees balls and started calling him a misogynist with photos “that reek of the male gaze.” All from one photoshoot that we all had fun with.
As for Kailey and Hattie. I didn’t talk to them much but I know enough to where none of you have the right to be making assumptions on them. They are kind and hardworking women that literally just had some fun w the photos.
If any of us actually got assaulted we’d be going crazy about it I promise you. We do media on the daily. It would’ve already been out.
No one knows what happened at camp. No one knows who the kids actually are. Only we do. If you want to poorly on it then go ahead but everyone involved at New Gen are genuinely amazing and talented people. Trust me when I tell you I’d be the first to crap on anyone if they royally messed up.
I bet hard money that none of you have had a genuine conversation with any of us and therefore don’t actually know what you’re talking about especially when it comes to New Gen itself. To us you all just sound poorly misinformed and looking for a fight with some teenagers.
A lost generation. Pathetic. The Kardashians of track.
For people who think the photos are alright, imagine New Balance releasing an 'edgy' photoshoot of Emma Coburn shoving Cory Mcgee's head in a toilet. Imagine 'On' releasing an 'artistic' shoot of Joe Klecker forcing Alicia Monson down to her knees by his grip on her hair, shoving her face into something while he sneers back at the camera. Do those shoots sound bizarrely p*rny, violent and inappropriate? Well it's 10x WORSE when they're fricken high schoolers

I thought this Ryder was a tough guy who stood up for his “art”?

You're right, that would not be on-brand for them, but they're not in the business of making experimental art that teens and the young adult crowd enjoys.
Also, if you're getting a sexual vibe from those pictures, maybe YOU'RE the problem. You should probably take a break from pornhub for a while.
Here is the most recent video on their YouTube page from the Festival of Miles. The video starts with 3-4 minutes of taking pictures of boys eating barbecue and then finishes with taking pictures of boys eating McDonalds.
The deepest high school mile in history with four boys running sub-4. HOKA Festival of Miles was an amazing event. Grateful to be apart of it and to be able ...
if you’re an artist trying to push the envelope or whatever they’re claiming, trying to be thought provoking or whatever - these are the thoughts that have been provoked. It’s valid criticism and to think people are reaching is just being intentionally ignorant. And again, it’s not just the photos themselves, it’s the whole newgen vibe, it’s another strike in a long line of weirdness from Ben, and especially it’s the complete mishandling of the response.
Also it’s ironic people are coming after Emma saying she’s just doing this for attention and stuff when literally that’s Ben Crawford’s ENTIRE personality/career. What a ridiculous double standard.

Ben strikes me as a nerdy guy who's finally getting his moment in the sun as one of the "popular kids" in his little niche. He's trying to put on the "cool guy" persona but is too awkward to pull it off and winds up saying dumb sh!t, so he strikes people the wrong way. I think that's a stretch, though, from him being some pedophilic cult leader like people are accusing him of. I agree, he loves the attention, but so does this Emma person. I can imagine the whole "look at me, I'm gay!" shtick is going to wear thin on her teammates pretty quick.
I'm not some New Gen fanboy, I stopped watching after the Oregon content in 2020 because they got super cringe, but I can see why younger people like it. I just like making fun of pearl-clutchers overreacting to silly stuff.

He’s 17 and probably doesn’t want to spend his free time arguing with 25 year old sub elite runners trying to argue with him in his comment sections

Doubling down on the double standard call that a quadruple standard 🙄
What's so depressing is that we live in a time with the easiest, cheapest media creation tools ever and this is the best they can do. There's no creativity or art here. This is the same tired tropes that have already gone out of style years ago.
Hey, let's get a wide angle lens, get down low, and shoot a bunch of people in a "hero" pose. I can just hear some braindead kid in the background going "yaasssssssssssss" as this happens.
This camp is an interesting concept and there are some extraordinary possibilities here. What came out of it is just sad.

I'm fine with being 'the problem' if okaying this type of brand promotion using teens at a camp is 'not the problem', lol. The themes of the photos are degrading and dominating teen girls. Plenty of men are turned on by that. You can deny that, but I was a teen girl. I know it, I've lived it. You can almost guarantee somebody j*cked off to the photos already. The dudes at NewGen are likely candidates. You can try to gaslight that this isn't sexual or inappropriate in any way but sorry, not buying it.
