Dude/Miss-blacks enslaved whites and most likely started the whole slave trade. White libs got nasty, cause that’s who they are, and the good guys brought it to an end ag least in America, land of the used to be free. get over it.
You may be able to convey your drivel more clearly if you wrote intelligibly.
If we included every topic covered in a semester in our syllabus, it would be 216 pages long. 😀
Trust me on this. Comparing the American colonial slavery system to slavery in other cultures is important. Understanding the differences between serfdom, indentured servitude, the American slave system, etc. is important.
Im sorry. You’re making a big deal out of nothing. There is nothing nefarious about learning about this very dark stain in colonial American and US history.
You sound like one of those crazy parents who go to school board meetings and want certain books banned because you don’t want your son to learn about the gays. Be better.
I think you misunderstood the reasoning behind Smoove's outrage. He and others believe that teaching about slavery in other cultures in the context of teaching US slavery is racist towards black people, since it apparently sends the message that "see, the US wasn't so bad, everybody had slaves!"
Yes....this is the world we're living in.
If that’s the reason, it is a myopic way of looking at history.
The Party of Small Government: "Here are the specific facts that you must teach kids..."
The idea that Republicanism is about limiting government intrusion into personal life has always been a bit laughable, but recently they seem to have given up on even pretending that it is their ideal.

You mean I would be part of the DeSantis brigade in one of the other culture wars he’s unleashing on Florida schools?
I don’t know. I don’t really follow what Desantis has done. I do know that you are wrong about this topic.

My ancestors came from Sicily in the early 1900s and never left NY. They were farmers of other people's land since Feudalism was still alive and well in Sicily even in the 20th century. I'm very confident knowing the history of that Island that somewhere in my past I have a slave or two in my family tree.
The "whataboutism" argument; that because slavery has existed elsewhere in history that reduces its grotesque enormity in US history. It's like you are saying to black Americans - "get over it, we were all slaves once". But in the country you live in you weren't - only black Americans were. Slavery and its legacy still resonates through American culture - and these threads reveal it in the desire of so many white Americans to minimise or deny it.
All I'm saying is having ancestors that were slaves isn't some uniquely black American experience. It is a global experience almost everyone lives. None of it was good, all of it was appalling, but history is appealing. I simply choose to not let any of it impact my present. I suggest others stop as well but if anyone wants to live their life as a victim feel free.

This is so utterly false. The Atlantic Slave Trade was so evil it is only surpassed in it's monstrosity by the Holocaust.
And you're just casually brushing it off as if it's something all peoples have experienced.

Well, I know first hand what he’s done, and that’s been my point this entire thread - if you lol at a fact that is in its face defensible in the co text of the entirety of the governor’s actions, that fact becomes a lot less defensible.
As a historian, I would think that you would be interested in seeing an isolated fact in context.
What I really don't like is if this garbage is taught it will make it less clear who the victims in America are supposed to be. That's going to be a problem and I we all must stand up for those victims.

Wait, so you’re mad at the rhetoric of a politician, and you want people to take you seriously 😂? You’ve had an extended temper tantrum about the wording of curriculum guidelines that actually have little to do with what goes on in a classroom and doesn’t prevent anyone from discussing the points you want to make.
Are you a disingenuous ideologue -OR- a naïve doofus? A little of both?
Grow up either way. You seem like a bright guy. These arguments are largely pointless and are not going to lead to anything productive.

I don't think you, or any of the other liberal crybabies understand how public school standards are set.
I recently spent some time in “confederate” rural Virginia. It’s amazing to see the confederate worship. These people are in denial. So I’m not surprised that Desantis is catering to confederate loving pea brains.
