Homicide? How many daily white on white shootings are there?
uh...about 125 daily in America. That is the number of white people shooting themselves. Its called suicide, which is much higher than homicides. Carry on.
Funny white people never mention that on the news but are quick to act like they are concerned if a black person shoots another black person over an argument.
Statistically speaking black families are among the poorest in the nation and consequently have more limited opportunities with education. There are relatively few middle class black families although of course they exist. Affirmative action is a blunt tool but that doesn't make it worthless.
Low-income white people are still not going to be accepted now that affirmative action is no more. If you wanted to improve the odds of low-income white people you needed to argue for the affirmative action system to be expanded to include them, but seeing as affirmative action has been abolished, that's not going to happen.
This fantasy world of equal outcome you're envisioning has never and will never exist.

As someone posted above the liberals that run ALL of these institutions could end this practice TODAY. They don't, though.
Is that why Asian refugees outperform American-born blacks? Is that also why African refugees - not just immigrants -do the same?

According to you everyone outperforms African-Americans at everything. You for some reason really hate African-Americans. Did one kick your ass in sports and in academics that you now feel the need to lie on an entire ethnic group.

Yes. Are they going to outlaw Legacy? Those are by far the least qualified admits.
Such has not been my experience when coaching at a number of high-level institutions, including an Ivy. On average legacies--i.e. the children of alumni--had academic credentials on par with, or very close to, the average of the admitted group as a whole.
And this makes some sense: Children of intelligent and affluent alums are likely to be intelligent themselves, and likely to have access to educational resources that most kids don't.
In the Ivies, at least, admitted legacies had average academic credentials that were somewhat stronger on average than those of athletes and affirmative action admits.
All that said, there are definitely individual outliers! One was my sister-in-law: an inner-city resident who was a good student at a magnet school, but only took the SAT once and didn't crack 1400. Nevertheless she got into Harvard, because her father was/is an extremely prominent figure in his academic/scientific field, and a Harvard alum.

"We" white folks today did not bring "you" here. Please stop demanding that people who had nothing to do with slavery which ended more than 150 years ago pay people who were not slaves as a reparation for slavery.
The status of black people in the USA today, many of whom are now at closest the 4th-, 5th, or 6th-generation descendants of a slave, has much less to do with slavery than it does with conceiving children out-of-wedlock.
Race shouldn't be part of admission at all. It shouldn't help you and it shouldn't hurt you. This is a good ruling. The best candidates should get in, not people that fit a specific demographic. If the best candidate is white, they get in. If the best candidate is black, they get in. If the best candidate is Indian, they get in. This makes it more even for everyone, it doesn't force diversity for diversity sake which is no more right that forcing homogeneity for homogeneity's sake.
The other factors like legacy don't have to be used and some schools have self-selected out of using them. However legacy isn't a protected demographic so it isn't relevant to this decision.
Just want to point out again for anybody cheering or despairing over this decision, the University of California and the Cal State system have been legally barred from considering race in admissions decisions for almost 30 years. The practical impact of Prop 209 has been negligible because the institutional values have not changed regardless of the changing legal landscape. Harvard and UNC and the others will tweak their practices to be in compliance with the law with no discernible difference in whatever outcomes they seek. This is both a message to the conservatives to go pound sand and to the liberals to get a grip, the sky is not falling. Very little will change.
One of the factors of admission is whether the applicant is a legacy. At top-tier schools that overwhelmingly favors white applicants. It also gives a bonus for something that the applicant did nothing to earn. Legacy admits also tend to be among the weaker end of the application pool, on average.
Again, this has not been my experience in 30+ years of dealing with university admissions. But I'll admit that my personal experience is perforce anecdotal, and if you can link to actual stats to support your assertion that legacy admits are at the weaker end of the pool, I will stand corrected.

Maybe. however I’m unsure that many first and 2nd generation African immigrants empathize or identify w African Americans who have been here for centuries, and vice versa. They really don’t much in common other than physical appearance and even that is questionable. They don’t necessarily associate w each other. However I think more African immigration to the US is definitely a good thing. They are on average intelligent, motivated, and have strong families. They seek opportunities that don’t exist in their home countries. I’ve seen many succeed in medicine.
