I've seen articles that estimate the chance of rescue at less than 1% :(.
I would love to do something similar to this, but I wouldn't, because it's spectacularly unsafe (not to see the Titanic, I don't feel that's OK in a way, but to see sea creatures). I chose to go in a boat with a glass bottom instead. It also only cost about the same price as a meal.
I understand wanting to explore but if you have to sign a disclaimer that mentions the possibility of dying on the trip multiple times, and you sign away those rights... that to me combined with the way this machine is operated is really concerning.
But that doesn't mean I don't feel for them. Obviously they didn't want this to happen. People have criticised this making the news. It makes the news because it's unusual - yes, people die on the water every single day but when it comes to this story, it has captured the public's imagination because it is so unusual.
It has not captured the public's imagination - it's just what every media company is pushing right now. The assumption is that nobody cares about a bunch of migrants from $hithole countries drowning, but if some rich dudes go missing everyone is on the case. Just look at the amount of resources being devoted to the search... it's sick.
It has captured. Media companies just push what fetches eyeballs. People I’ve talked to including in other countries seem rather intrigued by it and like to throw out ideas or questions about what could be done. Just like on here.
When migrant boats go down, we care as well and media reports it. Just that it’s usually too late to save them, and it’s arguably not as novel and mysterious like this case.
Yea have been fascinated to why someone who is a billionaire would go down 2 1/2 miles underneath the surface of the ocean in a little tube controlled by a remote from a play station. Do stupid things get stupid results. Sorry for the families of the victims. Another company trying to make money with shortcuts.
I am ok with this. This is not a company that sells food or necessities to the public. This is like sky diving. However, I think it's insane that public resources are being wasted on them. It should be included in the contract that no public resources will be used in case they get lost.

I would highly recommend that the new version of this submersible include the ability to open the hatch from the inside.
For the quick death option?
Yeah the quick death option - I am not going to sit with 5 others dudes with diminishing oxygen supplies in a dark cylinder where we are slowly suffocating on carbon dioxide and the temps in the sub are getting colder and colder. I am out ASAP.

What?
Ignore him. Just a troll looking for hits. He does this on a lot of threads.
hmmm, in fact I just watched interview with some guy on BBC, he said that remotely operated underwater vehicle can attach lift line on submarine and they can haul it up to the surface. But he also said the most difficult part is finding it
