Looks like that Jim's potential is a 3rd place with 12 minutes ahead of 4th and 5th.
I'm no fan boy either but he was looking really comfortable until the wheels fell off. Of course even 3rd is a great result but it's clear he has a lot more potential.
Lol at Jim fanboys who thought he had it in the bag with a 20 minute lead with over a marathon and the biggest climb yet to go.
Of course Jim has potential but don’t take it away from Kilian who is the GOAT.
jim will be back next year but he still isn’t even close to winning it.
Will be interesting to see what happened with Jim, clearly something went wrong. Of course managing those set backs and avoiding the worse ones is a critical part of a race this long. Walmsley seems untouchable up to 14-15 hours of running but those last few hours of UTMB have been crushing him.
Huge respect to Kilian and clearly the GOAT ultra runner. Seems like a dicey idea to run right after a bout of symptomatic Covid but I’m sure it was a calculated decision.
lastly, always impressed with the coverage/crowds at these races. Def want to go one year.
Would have been far better to have watched Jim fulfil his potential. He'd just about be finished by now if he hadn't hit whatever wall it was. He must be gutted. Next year ...
Big Jim passed for third by Tom Evans. A British guy with a 13:41 5k pr. Some range that! Will big Jim hold on to be first American or will he go home DEVASTATED? Seriously though 4th or 5th would still be pretty good. Just needs to figure out pacing and the last few hours. Why not just sit on Killian in a race like this and try something different to always going out hard and blowing up?
Kilian continues his goat status. Wins both Hardrock and UTMB in the same year. Both in record times.
Crowds larger than Eugene.
Not only the ultra and trail GOAT but the indisputable RUNNING GOAT
His range and longevity is simply incredible. Winning this race 14 years apart and setting new course records right towards the end of his career, nobody does that !
He already said he'll be living in France for a couple of years so maybe more European trail races is what he needs.
Killian shows his greatness. Takes on two of the hardest 100 miles in the world, wins them both, both in course record times and they are within 7 weeks of each other. Not too shabby for a "part time runner".
Brilliant performance from the top two. Not Big Jim's day, but, by far his best UTMB performance.
Massive shoutout to the coverage. It has been incredible. Better than most Gold Level Road Races, and, told the storylines so well.
You mean you don't love hearing the story about Lauren from Worcester who is running the Boston Marathon and has 2 kids, a dog, a job and survived pink eye just 4 months ago?!??!?!
How about Mark from Westchester who is running to honor his late parrot, Perry, who passed away suddenly at 23. Mark is running with the Parrots Forever charity and is looking to finish in sub 6 hours in his first marathon.
On a serious note, the coverage and feed in general is 100x better than what we in America get from NYC and Boston Marathons.

Is this a joke?
Have you heard of someone named Eliud Kipchoge? You think he's better than Kipchoge?
You think he's better than this?
2003 World title in the 5000 over El G and Bekele. Ran 12:52 that year. 2018- 2:01:39 marathon WR. That's 15 years apart . 2022 - 4 years later. Runs 2:02:40. Get back to me when Jornet does anything like 12:52 and then 2:02:49 19 years later.
Plus don't a lot of people think he's on drugs? I was stunned when i did the deep dive into running the ultra scene and I heard those rumors. I figured trails world was pure as snow.
Drug testing at almost all of these trail races is virtually non existent.
Why? I don't know. Cost?
Maybe the RDs have their heads so far up their @sses that they just refuse to believe people are doping and well, if we don't acknowledge it exists then it doesn't exist right!??!?

Yes Rojo, unlike the extremely clean totally drug free world of track running everyone in ultras are doping. I wish runners like Kilian could learn from such trustworthy organizations as NOP and Bowerman
Kilian has cemented himself as the ultra GOAT and it's not even close at this point. Hardrock course record then a month later UTMB course record. He's not even human.
