Common sense would suggest that Chris Rock who is already rich and famous wouldn't have any motivation at all to be emasculated on live television.
I submit that he was NOT emasculated. He stood there with his hands behind his back, didn't run away, took the slap like it was nothing and called Will Smith (F*ck Will Smith) out for reacting that way about a G.I. Jane joke. Chris Rock is The Man in this situation.
Oh get lost... she's missing 4 hairs. Let's not pretend the woman has cancer.
She’s unwillingly bald as a result of an unwanted medical condition.
Most adults understand that medical conditions and family are off limits. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
Lets be clear here = in terms of "off limits", his wife can blow a dude and the guy can flip her over and anally penetrate her - but, the "off limits" part happens when a comedian makes a joke about her shaved head? Then it's open season and a man needs to stand up for his wife's, uh, honor? Not the right word, her dignity? Not the right word? His own manliness? No. Ok, I get there is some reason you think he did the right thing here, but what's the word for it in this situation?
You are dead wrong about Smith and Rock. That was not staged.
Coming from the clown who assured us that Smollett was telling the truth.
I never said he was telling the truth and never thought he was. So, you are a LIAR. You will not be able to find a post of mine saying what you said I said. I win.
Comedy is often inappropriate. So what? Did he deserve to be struck by Will Smith for that? Um...no.
Never said that. Unlike you, I avoid speaking in absolutes, and try to understand both sides.
You stated that Chris is the “total victim”. That’s a unique point of view. I’d love for you to show the clip to your kids and explain that harassing women regarding medical conditions is “completely innocent” behavior. There’s no way to do it without pointing out that Chris’ actions were also inappropriate and the catalyst for the situation.
Chris deserves criticism. Will deserves criticism.
Jada is the victim.
There are not "both sides" here. Will Smith is allowed to be angry about whatever he wants to be. He could have been angry about what Chris Rock was wearing for all I care. What he can't do is hit someone for it. He wasn't protecting anyone from physical injury. He was flat out wrong. Will Smith's response was so over the top that Rock deserves no criticism here. The joke was a little bit harsh. So freakin' what? Other people in the audience were made fun of in much harsher ways earlier by Amy Schumer than what was said about Jada Smith.

Ok, well, let's not slut shame here. They have an OPEN MARRIAGE, and Will Smith reportedly gets some strange all the time too. This is their agreement. More power to them.
What Will Smith did was inappropriate and criminal. He's lucky that he likely will not face any charges. That the ONLY thing that matters...not their sexual dalliances.

Rock can't press charges or he'll look even worse than he did getting slapped. His best play is to get in on whatever train is being run on Jada this weekend and let Will know.
I was not "slut shamming". My inelegantly worded post was meant to illustrate a dichotomy in view/values. The poster was asking us to accept that Will Smith was acting out of an old fashioned sense of values where a man's role in society is to defend his wife against petty insults (even coming from a comedian). While at the same time we also have to accept Will Smith's brave and avant-garde new world values where he allows his wife to have sex with other men. Would he not also be brave enough to allow his wife to stand up for herself? It just seems incongruent to justify and accept his actions by saying it's just him relying on old school values when we know he is so much more sophisticated than all of that.

Here’s a wild thought (something most learn in 5th grade)….
You do not determine what is OK and what is off-limits for someone else.
To Will, his open marriage means those actions are OK. Two consenting adults made those arrangements between themselves. That’s why they power through the open marriage jokes.
However, to Will, taking a shot at his wife’s medical condition is off-limits. Its not a choice, it’s a diagnosis, and that makes it off-limits. I’m certain everyone is aware of that now.

Most people learn the exact opposite of that...
Societal norms are societal norms for a reason.
You missed the part where Will LAUGHED at the joke.
Society isn't required to play along with anyone's vanity.

This is what comedians do, these types of jokes have been made for over 60 years. The three hostesses weren't very kind. Did you ever watch the Oscars in the old days? You think Billy Crystal, Joan Rivers, Johnny Carson, David Niven, Bob Hope didn't go low sometimes?
Will Smith is a hell of an actor getting people to believe he's a tough guy. He's an emasculated punk.

I agree that he pretty much can't press charges, and he very likely won't. I still don't think Chris Rock looks bad here at all. He's a victim, and Will Smith (F*ck Will Smith) looks ridiculous and small. No need for the Jada train comment.

Ok. You did a good job of clarifying here.
One thing to consider though is that part of an OPEN MARRIAGE is that neither person is "allowing" the other to do anything. In this case, Will doesn't have any power over Jada to allow or disallow, and conversely, she doesn't have power over him to allow or disallow.

You look ridiculous and small on Letsrun when you far too often belittle others from your narcissistic throne. But no one is saying "F*ck Flagpole, right?

I agree with you that Will Smith is a punk as proven last night. Since we don't know the genesis or spirit of their OPEN MARRIAGE though, I can't agree that he's "emasculated."

I do that when posters here deserve it. Anyone here can write whatever they want. Will Smith (F*ck Will Smith) did something that Chris Rock did not deserve.
