Centro Sr used the cover of him being an Olympian ( X number of decades ago and counting) to be an absolute monster to his athletes.

Centro is cocky, and that attitude is a big contributing factor behind some stellar results that I'm sure excited to note. I'd much prefer a cocky Olympic gold medalist/World Championships medalist to a cocky young upstart whose bragging rights at this point mainly apply to college things, like how he aced his sociology midterm (not that he did), or to whom he knows who, admittedly, have set the bar high in distance running lately.

Young punks who disrespect one of the leading lights in their sport or occupation deserve to be publicly dissed by the champ. It must not be nice for Old Man Matthew, a force to be reckoned with until he proves otherwise, to respond to his doorbell by finding a burning bag of dog poop.

What I find almost equally disturbing while we are discussing posting, Oregon, etc. is that you are giving these kids the entitlements that many of you objected to from AJ when he was in high school and college so badly that the ridicule followed him post-Oregon.

Heck, I had to do it because I didn’t know who this guy was! It’s not like Centro is going extremely out of his way to do in depth research on this guy. It’s looking up 3 words and maybe 5 clicks away at that.

I hope Centro enters a home meet at Hayward this spring and strongly insists he be put in the heat with the walk-on kid and then proceeds to just sit on his shoulder the whole race and berate him and push him around. Then, after the race, he goes up to Teare and Hocker and get right in their faces to tell them to keep the walk-ons in check and to keep his name out their mouths.

Can you imagine a Washington runner saying, “your move @Nick Willis” on Tanner’s NZ indoor record, and Willis actually attacking him like a petulant child?

Any athlete who doesn’t defend themselves against cocky kids who have CONSTANTLY been making comments at you for months are the same kind of people that don’t make an effort to make their voice heard in literally any other situation

Personally, I'd like to imagine a moment where Centro's win actually gets respect. Honestly, Matt has been dealing with disclaimer crap since winning his Olympic Gold. When does he ever get to enjoy his win?
