And judging by the reaction in the States at the time of his first Spartathlon, it is probably safe to say if Letsrun had existed then, we would be sifting through 120 pages of character defamation, including from the journalist who claimed he did it on a motorbike.
He was at the Mississippi yesterday at 6:00am. He is about 55 miles away from there at the moment. This seems to be about the best he can muster of late for a day's running. Then again it is pretty hot out there right now. 90 degrees no? But Illinois is pretty much flat as a pancake compared to his first half. The jury is still out.

I agree with this. If he can walk at 20 min/mile pace he can obviously run 80 miles uphill at 6 pace.

Looks like he's made it approximately 40 miles since he left the Inn Keeper Motel area in Hamel last night to where his is now. About 3 mph if he was moving the whole time.

the more I look at this thing the more I think he has implemented Plan B. On the front half he was smoking 70 mile days. (driving in the passenger seat of the RV?) and taking long breaks of sleep and sight seeing. On the back half, he knows the best option before him is to just keep moving even if that means slow long walks mixed with occasional running.
Running is waste of energy for him now. He just needs to walk 15 hours a day and he'll make it.
So he did the first section at paces faster than marathon pace, going through the desert and over the mountains, running about half of it at night. THEN (perhaps coincidental to the public dust-up) he is now proceeding at a slower pace, closer to what mortals would do. Also, many days into the run, Laz/Gary encounter them on a stretch of road they probably should not be on employing a traffic-running strategy that is not safe. Which means they had not learned a good way to do this previously... including waaaay back in California, running the section on which there IS no easy/good/safe way to do.
While it seems pretty obvious what has been going on here, it also sets up the tale that matches his previous performances: he can say that he went out "too hard" and is now coasting. Just like he said he did intentionally at every marathon last year that he "won". He can say the first section was too brutal and now he's paying. Which is reasonable at an abstract level (the numbers still don't make sense), except that it doesn't really sound like the same dude in the blog from the first section at all.
Sad to say, folks, nothing will ever be proven here at this point. It isn't going to happen.
Really should focus on the numbers from the first section. Particularly how the heck they made it out of the start safely, that adventure in the desert, and trying to get over the mountains at road marathon pace. Those numbers are not credible.
Best outcome with Laz/Gary is that he'll be able to say "this doesn't seem right" and the guy is slowed up and misses the record. But the record doesn't matter. He will end up a bigger hero with his fans because he overcame incredible odds just to finish.
To those of you who are thinking that the OP himself is trolling, you guys really have programmed yourselves for too many conspiracy theories thanks to Kip and the winnebago man and godknowswhat.

Should be a blog post coming up now anytime soon, as they've put one up every 2/3 days. Would be interesting to see if there's any talk about data and why it is not shared. Still cannot see any good reason not to share his running stats.
Also: Would be interested to see the Car Wash footage by now.
From his current location near Vandalia, IL it's approx. 832 miles to Times Square, so he doesn't have to go anywhere near the paces/distances he was "running" through the early questionable early sections.
Walk/plod 52 miles a day and he'll get close to beating the "record".
Some psychiatrists might say he's substituted one form of abuse with another.

Also to those of you who continue to clamor for the team to release "data" as if that would immediately solve everything... I call BS on you.
Days/weeks have passed. If they release data with unbelievable numbers, you will just say they are not believable. If they release data with believable numbers, you will just say they've been doctored. Which technically would be pretty easy, but practically speaking (fudging hours and hours of coordinate, pace, cadence info) would be incredibly tedious and really challenging to do w/o looking 'smoothed' or otherwise screwed with.
But for the conspiracy minded, maybe that's why they haven't released it (except as screenshots) yet. Maybe Dustin's technical talents that people are poking fun at... reasonably, as they seem to be absent... are actually pretty good. I don't actually believe this to be what's going on. And if it is, I think it'll be easy to spot. I think, more likely, they have data and the data will show that the data make no damn sense to actual experts. Perhaps I'm wrong.
You should understand that the bar of proof required by Guinness for these long running records is ridiculously low. The team has said several times that they are focused on doing it for Guinness using the Guinness guidelines. Guinness likes to be paid.
