SO? What's wrong with focusing on middle distances and playing to your climate? Not all 800-1500 runners are enamored with XC and many would find it great to not have to focus on racing the longer fall distances.
The fact is that UCLA is one of the top ranked academic institutions in the world. That is a card that can be played to attract those who want that type of a prestigious degree. In terms of no money for distance scholarships...that's incorrect. I have an athlete going there this fall on scholarship.
Nothing wrong with focusing on middle distance... it's an HC decision.
That said, climate not being conducive to XC is a silly excuse. Climate.... in LA ... bad for distance running? Not buying it.
And, yes, you are right there are some on scholarship there.
We're talking about the best (arguably) state school in the best distance running HS state in the country. XC should be such low hanging fruit/easy path to success. doesn't make any sense.
Anyone have any clue what’s going on at Boston College? Looks like they posted for head women’s, new AD officially started, then switched to the joint posting. Maybe this guy actually wants to finish higher than 14th at conference? Shame seeing an ACC school continually be worse than most D2’s
The issue rumored seems they won’t pay for a seasoned coach to come; if you look up prior coaches salaries it all makes sense. So whomever gets hired is going to have to pay their dues and work till the next higher paying job opens.
Not every schools focus is to hire the best candidate. That is just what it is. Someone may have applied for this Job with much better coaching credentials, If they needed a certain person for the role that’s what they went with it happens all the time. Someone may get passed on a job like this then turn around and land a much bigger job. It’s the game!
