I said that multiple times. I asked around for years and non of the older American ultrarunners seem to know Frank Giannino. His website does not mention any ultraraces at all. A 67mile/day for 46 day effort seems very very unlikely for somebody who has never done other ultraraces except his TransCon the year before. A 48 mile/day effort.
My best guess is that Frank ran that fast because Stan Cottrell just had cheated his way through the US. 64.5 miles/day just a couple weeks/months earlier. He got cought since some Chinese runners who where running with him reported a lot of car driving in between. The sponsors pulled their runners and Stan "finished" on it's own. ( Something along these lines).

Based on all the other evidence against Robert Young, I'm going to say that it is not him. There are just way too many holes in Young's stories for him to have any credibility.

Technically there are no official World Records for ultrarunning, except for 100K. IAAF is the only international governing association for running, and they only certify 100K. For practical purposes, the "world best" performances recorded by the IAU (International Association of Ultrarunners) are generally referred to as World Records. The events for which these "records" exist are 50K, 100K, 100M, 1000K, 1000M, 6 hr, 12 hr, 24 hr, 48 hr, and 6 day. It's a bit confusing, because US records include other distances (e.g. 50M, 200K). However, there is no such thing as a transcontinental "world record", as far as any running governing body is concerned.
Guinness "world records" are something completely different. They will certify anything if you give them money and an appropriate amount of evidence. (E.g., there's a record for fastest marathon run dressed as a nun.) In many cases, this evidence turns out to be insufficient; there are definitely some bogus ultrarunning Guinness World Records.

So two people with technical know how, Robert and Dustin, but they can't (sorry won't) upload data. Perhaps Laz can help...on second thoughts...
Since there is no WADA drug testing for these records, Robert Young should just have done the smart thing and taken a shit load of performance enhancing drugs. It would be legal and he wouldn't be cheating.

The lies were covered extensively in the press and on a major national TV show he was challenged to run 130 miles in a day. He'd claimed to do this for 6 consdcutive days accross Mexico carrying his gear, navigating and searching for accommodation, so it should have been easy. He managed 70 miles..... But still Guiness gave him the record.

Are you serious? If I wanted to do this trip it would cost me thousands, he gets everything paid for him, and doesn't have to get a real job. On the mapmytun I am guessing this is an error easily made. Nobody took any notice of my endomoneo stats until I reached the top of a leaderboard when an eagle eyed Ukrainian spotted some of my runs were doubled up. It was an innocent mistake not realising two devices were uploading. Mapmytun is different to Strava and endomoneo. You can map your run then go and run it. I imagine there is some error due to that. It is not particularly relevant to all this though. You pretty much have to take his word for those. There are plenty of events he ran - go and check results on those. Start with the Sca Fell trail marathon where I met him. A marathon up the highest mountain in England (ok we don't do big mountains but still a tough course). That was part of his year of marathons. He didn't have to choose to include mountain marathons but like as challenge!
On this long thread, I was the one who had been questioning why it seemed that there were two narratives to Rob's backstory. In retrospect (and this is why I reread the opening of his book), I may have been more influenced by articles in the Telegraph, SI, etc that I had read first and those simplified his story and didn't mention him as a triathlete. Of course, to gain readership and ratings, they would play up the amazing coach to multi-marathoner angle. But in Rob's own words, he acknowledges his competitive background and the 7 year gap til he took up marathoning. And when I first read his opening chapter, he downplays his endurance background but he does acknowledge it.
I still have issues reconciling the mapmyrun data and his description in the book. He acknowledges in the book that he would need to verify this record attempt at a sequence of marathons, but he says that gps data would not be necessary. Just two witnesses and he chose Eva and Joanna. But his description of them witnessing his initial marathons doesn't match what he posted in mapmyrun which causes problems.
Rob certainly is an endurance runner. I don't question his London or Brighton Marathons because of the photos and splits. But that doesn't resolve the main issue of this long thread--has he been running all the way across the US or has he been getting a lift in the RV for parts of it. I have little to contribute to that discussion. I took it upon myself to examine his book instead to see if there were falsifications there. There are still irreconcilable differences between his descriptions in the book and his mapmyrun data.
So you saying for all those marathon runs he did round Richmond park for his record, he didn't use a Garmin, and got a world record just by asking his bird and a mate to verify it? That's nearly as bad as asking only for a note from his mum.
