You have every right to say whatever you want, and you shouldn't be killed for it. I contend that it's a false equivalence to suggest speech celebrating the death of a human is on par with that proclaiming men shouldn't play women's sports or use women's bathrooms. You people can't win that debate, so you are resorting to violence. So by all means you and your furry boyfriend, continue your death cult celebration, and commence your love letter writing to Tyler Robinson.
That a large group of people on the left are celebrating his death, is a massive straw man. The slow motion video of his head snapping back, the wound on his neck and blood gushing out, is repulsive and yet you think many people are celebrating? A large portion of the left had never heard of him prior to his murder. He was just a political pundit and his death was of no benefit to anyone. Some posts from wackos saying they are in celebration, doesn’t mean anything.
Republicans are still trying very hard to find a trans person to blame for this. They’ve tried at least three separate accusations (the shooter was trans, the bullets had trans messages, the roommate was a trans girlfriend). None of them are true.
What we have learned from this is that social media does a sh$tty job at journalism. For those who celebrated the decentralization of journalism and removal of editorial control in legacy media, what we are left with is a society that is increasingly in the dark because very few people are left who are capable and dedicated to real journalism and finding out the truth.
How do you know how much time he spent online? That he was a straight A student, scored 34 out of 36 on the ACT which put him in the top one percent, and obtained a $32K academic scholarship from Utah Sate, suggests he spent less time online than your average kid.
Straight As in high school isn't that hard for a kid smart enough to get a 34. A lot of my friends with good grades rushed through their homework to get on Call of Duty.
I can somewhat wrap my head around the idea of leftists not really …
“The left” “the leftists” and “they”? Why can you not give any credence to the fact that the category of “the left” is filled with millions upon millions of decent people who go about their daily lives in ways that are very much like what you would recognize (and I assume value and approve of) in Republicans? And that they look with disgust at those who celebrate an assasination?
I agree that “the Left” as a more or less coherent political entity is broken, and that the worldview of a certain percentage of people on the Left is horrible and worsening. And those people have increased in number. And that there are many reasons for that. And that one of those reasons is a larger fracturing of American society not restricted to the Left.
I think you may not understand something, though Stephen Miller does, and even AdultInTheRoom does, and it is a dynamic both of them probably hope for: The more you erase distinctions among your political opponents and act as though “they” are all the same, the more likely you are to polarize the country further, stoke anger, turn more moderates into die-hards, and swell the ranks of the radical fringe. Of every radical fringe, whether you’d call it left or right.
And what do you think happens when you stoke anger and become one of the forces that contributes to making people more radical?
You yourself have made some disgustingly callous posts here (and arguably worse than merely “callous”) and then have backpedaled into calling for peace and saying you want to debate reasonably.
When you have spoken of the Right “firing back,” I’m assuming, then, that doing so will be restricted to those who fire shots against the Right or those who express a wish to do so? Do you think that such posts display your loathing of violence, or do they look more like an attempt to justify further violence?
I’m all for peaceful and reasonable discussion. Maybe you can genuinely and consistently commit to that by restricting yourself to pointing out bad and dangerous ideas you see, denouncing specifically the worst opponents you see, and never insinuating that a group of kind, peaceful fellow Americans are evil, just because a number of other members of their political party do things we all consider despicable.
I appreciate your post, and I agree with much of what you say. I know I had some heated posts early in this thread that have since been deleted, most of which came from the anger I was feeling upon learning of the killing of Charlie Kirk. And yes, I have made insensitive posts in the past, namely the one often mentioned regarding the theoretical civil war, in which I would find liberals at Starbucks and the dressing rooms of Target. There was more jest to that comment than anything else, yet I have also been seeing the storm clouds of a wide scale political altercation develop over some time now. Despite what you may think, this is something I don't want. Don't tell anyone but there are leftists in my life that I get along perfectly well with, and it saddens me that political strife may tear those relationships apart. So to your point, I do realize the leftist group is of a heterogeneous nature (ironic 😉) but it is quickly being taken over by a force that cannot be reconciled with. We both it seems still hold out hope for some grand reconciliation, but my hope is fading fast that that ship hasn't already sailed. And also, I love talking sh*t and joking and will continue to make insensitive posts, so don't take it personal.

It’s not really social media though. It’s major media like the Wall Street Journal and New York Post. Sourcing from “senior FBI Officials” like Dan Bongino.

It would be impossible for a kid that was online 24/7 since age 10, like that poster claimed. The claim is absolutely baseless.

I appreciate your post. You made some heated posts in anger and weren’t even close to your best self.
I believe there is no excusing the celebration of the violence. And I would expect that a lot of the people who do so have warped values that are unlikely to change soon. But I believe some online posts were made by people out of a visceral reaction and they’d like to take them back, and not merely out of fear of consequences, but because the intervening time and discussion has permitted them a look in the mirror.
I think it’s a hard road to claw back from, but I genuinely believe that voicing unity and a shared denunciation of violence is a way to guide more people back. It’s not the same process or a perfect analogy, but I believe most people’s tack in dealing with ideas or behavior they vehemently disagree with in political opponents is a reaction like screaming at a child or beating a pet to try to change behavior. Oh, it’ll change their behavior, all right. Just not the way you want.
Well, “talking sh*t and joking” is all cool. But I’m guessing some guys here are just trolling with some of the most disgusting posts and chuckling to themselves over the thought of people getting riled up. I don’t understand it. And maybe you feel that since you don’t go as far as they do, you’re in the clear. I guess I’d hope your recent reflection has you recalibrating where you draw the line. It’s tough, because few share the same line.
And I don’t think some posts on a running message board are really likely to sway people, but I simply refuse to participate in certain things regardless. I have little influence, but I can try to act in a manner that I consider more likely to be helpful rather than harmful, even in whatever very small amount.

It's impossible to be online 24/7 because you have to sleep. Kids these days can get good grades and still be addicted to video games. In high school it's not very difficult. Usually these bad habits catch up to you in college.

Yes it is difficult at times to know where to draw the line. I won't deny that I haven't ever posted to get a rise out of people, but I like to think my posts haven't risen to the level of posts like the one before of the Charlie Kirk gushers. I don't know maybe they have in the eyes of the other side. Anyway, you seem to be a thoughtful and intelligent person. All the best to you.

I don't understand why anyone thinks this shooting is more important than all of the shootings that happen every day in this country. His death isn't more or less important, sad, or noteworthy than the students killed the exact same day for example.
I can somewhat wrap my head around the idea of leftists not really caring about the murder of Charlie Kirk. Maybe you don't really know who he is, or maybe you do know and you reject his conservative ideas and the way he goes about presenting them, therefore the assassination is a big nothing burger to you. Fine. But what is beyond belief is the level of glee and utter joy that leftists across this country are expressing as the result of the brutal murder of a fellow human. I really believe that the success of the MAGA movement has broken the left, and any skosh of humanity they had has long faded off into the night. It quite an ugly, and vitriolic, and pathetic display, to the degree of which considerations should probably be made to somehow peacefully isolate these people from the rest of society.
If you're more concerned about people calling Kirk a racist piece of sh*t than you are about the racist sh*t that Kirk said, it may be a sign that you're also a piece of sh*t.
I would definitely prefer somebody that calls Charlie a piece of sh*t as an educator than somebody that voted for a convicted felon, serial rapist, and pedophile.
I'm not sure what is more vile and intellectually shallow... celebrating the brutal murder of someone or trying to blame the murder on someone/something that had nothing to do with it. Shame on you. Rest assured you people will never get back into power with this continued poisoning of the well of humanity.
so why don’t you tell us what the reason was for this, Einstein?
🚨BREAKING: Miss Rachael O'Connor at Miamisburg High School, a Social Studies teacher, is absolutely TRASHING Charlie Kirk to a classroom full of students.
Let me make this clear, this is the SECOND @BurgSchools employee that's said DISTURBING things about Charlie Kirk.
Every one of these people should be awarded some sort of honor for calling a racist piece of sh*t a racist piece of sh*t. Anybody that attends a Charlie Kirk vigil is a freak and should absolutely lose their job - especially if it involves working with children.
